Overlays for Self Service Portal custom configuration

Custom configuration of the Self Service Portal involves modifying the XML configuration data. If you modify this data directly in the base configuration, your custom configuration might get overwritten when you upgrade BMC Virtual Chat. Starting with version 9.1.01, by using overlay mode for your custom configurations, you can preserve your custom configuration during an upgrade. In addition, if you need to troubleshoot an issue, you can disable overlays to return to the base configuration.

Overlays can be level 1 or level 2. Level 1 overlays include the entire configuration section and are typically a single XML element. The custom configuration in a level 1 overlay completely replaces the base configuration. Level 2 overlays include one or more XML elements from the configuration section. The custom configuration in a level 2 overlay replaces the corresponding XML elements in the base configuration, but leaves the other parts of the base configuration unchanged.
