23.3.02

Add technical services and business applications

In a complex service model, it is necessary to differentiate business services from technical services and business applications. As a service designer, you can add technical services and business applications, in addition to business services, by using the Kind option. Also, you can convert an existing business service into a technical service or business application.

On the UI, the following icons represent each service kind:

  • BusinessService_23302.pngBusiness Service
  • TechnicalService_23302.pngTechnical Service
  • BusinessApplication_23302.pngBusiness Application

For more information, see Defining-a-service.

Filters to view services based on the service kind

On the Services page, use the following Service Kind filter options to view services based on the type of service:

  • Business Service
  • Technical Service
  • Business Application

Filters are retained even when you switch between the tile view and the heatmap view.

For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.

View historical prediction analysis

As an operator or a site reliability engineer (SRE), view the past prediction analysis by launching the Prediction Analysis dashboard from BMC Helix Dashboards> Operations Management. You can do the following tasks from this dashboard:

  • View the historical prediction analysis for the last 15 days
  • Troubleshoot an issue
  • Analyze a prediction event in the recent past that is associated with a current issue
  • Get insights into the past predictions by identifying the most impactful issues of a service
  • Set high alerts for the most impactful events in advance
  • Minimize the service degradation through proactive remediation

For more information, see Monitoring-service-predictions andPrediction Analysis dashboard.

User experience improvements

The following improvements are included in this release.

View default health score and status configuration

The default configuration values for the health score and health status are displayed in the Define Health Profile pane.

In addition, the Health Status Configuration table has a new column to define the lower threshold and 0-30 is added as the default lowest range.

For more information, see Customizing-health-score-and-health-status

Enhanced UI messages for easier understanding of balancing profiles

When you select the Base CI Category and Base CI Kind for a balancing profile, a message indicates the selected CI kind and its relationship with the other CIs.

The Rule section is renamed to Fault tolerance policy and the message in the section describes how the rule is applied to the selected service.

For more information, see Adding-balancing-profiles

Search for a configuration item quickly in the topology view

By default, the CI topology tab shows the health of only the impacted configuration items (CI). In a large service model, it is difficult to locate other CIs. Use the search topology box on the CI topology tab to locate the required CI.

For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.

Save page preferences on the Services and Situations pages

When viewing the Services page, you can save the preferences for the selected severity filters, advanced filters, and the page view by using the Save Preferences option. On the Situations page, you can save the preferences for the selected advanced filters.

After you select any filters or change the views, the Save Preferences option is enabled. Page preferences are saved for the logged-in user until a new preference is saved.

Aggregated and detailed views for similar situations

When viewing details for similar situations, a graph displays similar situations aggregated by the day of the week or date and day of the month.

The Aggregated View shows the number of occurrences against the day of the week. The day of the week is represented on the Y-axis and the hourly time slot for 24 hours is represented on the X-axis. This view is seen only if there are situations available for more than one week. The situations are grouped by the day of the week from Sunday to Saturday.

The Detailed View shows the number of occurrences against day and date for the last 30 days. The day and date is represented on the Y-axis and the hourly time slot for 24 hours is represented on the X-axis. This view is seen even if the data is available for a single day. This view captures data between the first occurrence date and the most recent occurrence date for the last 30 days. Additionally, the Show More option displays the hierarchical list of similar situations in a detailed format.

For more information, see Investigating-ML-based-situations.

User experience improvements

The following improvements are included in this release.

Indication of propagation of the impact to a parent service

The relationship between a parent and child service is indicated by a solid line in the Service Hierarchy view when the impact is being propagated from a child service to its parent service. If the impact is not being propagated, it is indicated by a dotted line.

For more information, see Investigating-the-service-nodes-from-service-hierarchy-view.

Total Events, Impacting Events, and Impacting Child Services

The Impacting Sub-Services label is renamed to Impacting Child Services.

The service details page always displays the Total Events count for a service. If the service is impacted, it also displays the Impacting Events count and Impacting Child Services count.

For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.

Exclude related CIs when adding CIs

When adding static content (CIs) to a service or when adding CIs to a service blueprint, the related CIs are included by default. However, you can exclude the related CIs by clearing the Include Related CIs check box. In earlier releases, you could include related CIs by using the Add (inc. related) button.

For more information, see To add static content to a service or To create a service blueprint from the available CIs and their relationships.
