Assigning attributes to assets automatically
As an asset administrator, create automation rules to assign attributes and their values to newly created assets by using Asset Automation. After you create automation rules, the new asset will automatically have the correct attributes and their values added. Setting these automation rules saves manual effort and enhances the quality and accuracy of the data.
Before you begin
To create an automation, you must have Asset admin permissions along with the Asset Automation Admin functional role.
To assign the Asset Automation Admin functional role to a user, see Asset Management user roles and permissions.
To assign attributes to assets automatically
After you create an automation, the specified rules are applied to any new assets in your organization. You must specify the attributes and the values when you create the rule. Asset automation assigns them to assets that fall in the specified criteria.
- Go to Asset Console and click Asset automation console.
- Click Create automation.
- Enter a name for the automation.
- In Criteria, select the asset type for which you are configuring the automation. For example, Product.
- Add an expression for the criteria. For example, ManufactureName = "Microsoft"

- (Optional) In Actions, select the required Relationship type and other parameters based on your selection.

Note: Relationship type is a mandatory field. However, you can create asset automation using only Attribute, or Relationship type, or both. - In Update Attribute, select the required attribute, for example Admin Password Status.

(Optional) To add multiple attributes and their values, click Add another attribute and repeat step 7. - Click Save.
The automation is displayed in the list of automations in the Draft state.
- After you review the rules for accuracy, select the automation and click Enable.
The status of the automation changes to Active.
