Installing – Classic mode

TrueSight Orchestration comprises platform and content. Platform consists of components such the repository, configuration distribution peer, Development Studio, and so on. TrueSight Orchestration uses BMC Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO or RSSO) as an authentication service.

Installation process – At a glance

The installation process requires you to complete your planning activities before starting the preparatory, installation, and post-installation tasks. The installation flow diagram and the process table enable you to install the solution smoothly.

Installation process

This section describes a typical TrueSight Orchestration installation and the sequence in which you must install the components.

Regardless of whether you use the GUI wizard or the silent installation method, you must install the TrueSight Orchestration components in the order described in the following process tables.

Before starting with the installation process, ensure that you complete the planning activities for the product. For more information, see Planning.

Step 1: Prepare your installation environment

Download the installation files and prepare your installation environment.

Description

Procedure

Complete the preinstallation tasks and download the installation files.

Step 2: Install Remedy Single Sign-On (external)

TrueSight Orchestration uses Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO or RSSO) as an authentication system to manage users and groups.

Description

Procedure

Remedy SSO can be installed using one of the following options:

  • External Remedy SSO – Install before installing the platform
  • Embedded Remedy SSO – Gets installed with the platform components

Step 3: Install the repository

Repository stores Content at a central location. It also offers role-based access control to ensure that users have access to appropriate content.

Description

Procedure

If using embedded Remedy SSO, you can skip Step 2 and start with installing the repository. If using external RSSO, ensure that it is up and running before installing the repository.

You can install the repository using the installer (GUI wizard) or silently.

Step 4: Install Configuration Distribution Peer

The Configuration Distribution Peer (CDP) is the primary peer in the grid. It is the master application that controls all workflows, including load balancing across the grid of peers. It provides a central administration point and is a workflow execution engine.

Description

Procedure

You can choose any of the following options to install the CDP:

  • CDP only (Primary CDP)
  • CDP and Operator Control Panel (OCP)

Repository server must be up and running before you install the CDP.

Step 5: Install TrueSight Orchestration Development Studio

TrueSight Orchestration Development Studio is a graphical authoring tool used to create, modify, and test workflows. It is a thick-client application that can be installed on a Windows operating system.

Description

Procedure

When you download the platform installation files, a separate installer is available for installing the Development Studio.

Step 6: Install content

Content comprises application adapters, base adapters, Operations Actions Management Modules, utilities, and runbooks. You can install content anytime after you install the CDP.

Description

Procedure

You must install the content version compatible with this version of platform. A separate installer is used for installing content.

Using the wizard-based installer, you have the following installation paths available for installing content:

  • BSM Solutions – Installs solutions that consist of preselected adapters and modules needed for the runbook.
  • Custom feature set – Enables you to select individual content based on your requirement.

Step 7: Install additional peers

Apart from the primary peer – CDP, you can install the Activity Peer (AP), Lightweight Activity Peer (LAP), and the secondary CDP, also known as the High Availability CDP (HACDP) based on your deployment requirements. Before installing any of the additional peers, you must add them in the Grid Manager (web application for the CDP).

Description

Procedure

An Activity Peer executes workflows however, unlike a CDP, an AP does not provide administrative services. You can install more than one AP in your environment.

When you add an AP to the grid, the AP automatically downloads activated workflows from the CDP to provide high-availability workflow load balancing. If a CDP becomes unavailable, the AP continues to process workflows with the other available peers in the same grid.

LAPs host adapters, but unlike the other peer types, they cannot execute workflows.

The high-availability configuration distribution peer (HA-CDP) is a secondary CDP that provides redundancy in a high-availability environment and is an optional server component of TrueSight Orchestration.

Until a failover occurs, a secondary CDP functions as an Activity Peer.

Step 8: Install the Operator Control Panel

The Operator Control Panel is a web application that enables operators, such as service desk personnel, network operators, and IT technicians, to run workflows in a semi-automated mode. Operators can manually launch a workflow, follow its progress in a graphical view, step-through workflows interactively, and debug workflows. Each instance of TrueSight Orchestration Operator Control Panel can attach to only one peer and provides access to a single grid.

Description

Procedure

You can also install the OCP with the primary CDP as described in Step 4.

If you have not installed OCP with the CDP, you can install it anytime after installing the primary CDP.

Step 9: Install Heath and Value Dashboards

The TrueSight Orchestration Health and Value Dashboard is an optional component that you can install with the CDP.

Description

Procedure

Install the Health and Value Dashboards.

Step 10: Complete post-installation activities

Complete the post-installation activities to ensure that your TrueSight Orchestration Platform environment is functional.

Description

Procedure

Post-installation activities include:

  • Configuring fail-safe ESB
  • Adjusting grid permissions for the Default group
  • Configuring dashboards

Where to go next

  • BMC releases periodic product updates though service packs and patches. Check the Release-notes-and-notices section for the latest product updates.
  • After all components are installed successfully, you must configure the TrueSight Orchestration environment before you start using the platform. For more information, see Configuring-after-installation.
