TrueSight Capacity Optimization connector

• The computer on which the connector is installed must have Java OpenJDK 11.0.2 installed on it.
  
• The computer on which the connector is installed must have network access to the database that is configured in the connector.
  
• BMC recommends that you install the connector on the computer where the ETL engine is installed.
  

You must configure the connector to connect to TrueSight Capacity Optimization for data collection.

To configure the connector:

1. In the BMC Helix Cloud Cost dashboard, navigate to Connectors > Add a Connector > and select TSCO Connector from the on-premise connectors.

2. On the Configure Connector page, configure the following properties:

   Property	Description
   Connector name	A unique name for the connector. This name is used as the account name in Helix Cloud Cost.
   TSCO configuration	Select Billing & Usage option to collect billing data and to manage and optimize the cost of your resources. Specify the TSCO host name or IP address Note: Ensure that you enter a unique host name in the connector configuration to avoid duplicate collection of cost and usage data.
   Database details	Specify the database name. Specify the host name where the database is running. Specify the port number that will be used to access the database on the specified host name. The user name and password to connect to the database. This user must be the standard database user owning the Capacity Optimization schema (BCO_OWN). Alternatively, you can set or update the password from the application.properties file. To set or update the password from the file, download and extract the connector. Navigate to the <connector_name>\bin folder. Use the EncryptPassword.bat file to encrypt your password. Navigate to the <connector_name>\config folder. Open the application.properties file in a text editor and edit it. This file contains the connector properties that are specified as name and value pairs. Specify the encrypted password in the file, and save the file.

3. Collection mode: By default, the data collection cycle is set to On Demand collection. You can select an appropriate unit of time (days, minutes, hours) to schedule the data collection frequency.

4. Click Continue. BMC Helix Cloud Cost starts downloading the connector setup zip file automatically to your local disk.
   The downloaded zip file name is same as the connector name that you have specified in the connector configuration. After the download is complete, the state of the connector is displayed as Downloaded on the Manage Connectors page.
5. Copy the downloaded zip file to a folder of your choice on the target computer. Extract the package.
6. Run the connector package.
   • (Windows) Double-click run.bat
     
   • (UNIX) At the shell prompt, type chmod +x run.sh to grant execute permissions to the run.sh file. Type run.sh and press Enter.
     
7. While the package execution is in progress, switch to the BMC Helix Cloud Cost UI, and from the Download page, click Continue.
8. After the execution is complete, the Manage Connectors page shows the details of the newly configured TSCO connector and the state of the connector is updated to Running.
   

Verify that the connector executed successfully and check whether the Capacity Optimization data is refreshed on the Dashboard.

To verify whether the connector ran successfully:

1. On the Manage Connectors page, the state of the newly configured connector is updated to Running.
   When you run the connector for the first time, the connector recovers data for the past three months. Ideally, the data collection begins immediately.
   

   It might take some time to process and display the cost dashboard after the connector evaluation is completed.

   
   

2. Select the On-Premises tab from the Dashboard.
3. In the Summary tab, verify that the total cost, historical cost, and total resources are displayed. Currently, the TrueSight Capacity Optimization connector does not support generation of recommendations.
4. Resource pool information is not available by default. You must create a resource pool to view the resource pool details like name, resource count, budget, actual cost, and the projected cost. For more information, click Resource Pools.
5. In the Accounts tab, verify that the account details like name, actual cost, change in cost (in US dollars and percent), percent total cost, and number of resources are displayed for the account that is configured for this connector.
6. In the Services tab, verify that the service details like name, actual cost, change in cost (in US dollars and percent), percent total cost, and number of resources are displayed.
7. In the Explore Bill tab, verify that the resource name, actual cost, resource type, region, account name, and the service name are displayed.
