Configuring integration with a remote BMC Remedy AR System Server

If you are using a deployment with BMC Remedy IT Service Management installed on a separate BMC Remedy Action Request System server, you need to configure integration between both BMC Remedy AR System Servers. This includes the following tasks:

Before you begin

On both servers ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • The Server Group Member flag is disabled on BMC Remedy AR System Server Administration Console > Server Information > Configuration tab.
  • The AR Distributed license is available.

Transfer from BMC Remedy IT Service Management  to BMC HR Case Management sometimes takes  more than one hour. 

To plan the configuration

Complete the following planning sheet with values that you need to submit during servers integration process:

DSO Local RPC Program number

Review what DSO Local RPC Program number is assigned.

If it is not available, then manually add any number from these ranges: 390621–390634, 390636–390669, 390680–390694 (private queue).

Note: 390600 (administrative) number cannot be used.

Logical Name

(Distributed Logical Mapping Entries)

The logical name for a server. For example, itsm_server.

Physical Name

(Distributed Logical Mapping Entries)

Actual server name. For example, clm-tex-678912.bmc.com.

BMC Remedy AR System Server input

Description

Administrator Name

BMC Remedy AR System Server administrator user name

Administrator Password

BMC Remedy AR System Server administrator password

TCP Port

Type the port number that your BMC Remedy AR System Server Administrator assigned to clients to connect to the BMC Remedy AR System Server.

DSO passwordBMC Remedy AR System Server DSO password (initially specified during installation of BMC Remedy AR System Server).
DSO Local RPC Program number

For BMC Remedy AR System Server  with BMC HR Case Management, the number that you choose to add must be from the same range that is assigned on the BMC Remedy AR System Server with BMC Remedy ITSM.

For example,  if you select 390636 for BMC Remedy ITSM, you can use 390637 for BMC HR Case Management because this number is within one  range  390636–390669.

Logical Name

(Distributed Logical Mapping Entries)

Logical name for a server. For example, hrcm_server.

Physical Name

(Distributed Logical Mapping Entries)

Actual server name. For example, clm-tex-012345.bmc.com.

To configure the server hosting BMC Remedy IT Service Management 

  1. Change the dsoj setting:

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\Conf\armonitor.cfg.

    2. Search for “dsoj”.
    3. Go to the beginning of the line with dsoj, and if it is commented out, remove the # and then save the armonitor.cfg.
    4. Restart BMC Remedy AR System Server to apply the changes.
  2. Log in to BMC Remedy AR System Server as administrator.
  3. Navigate to AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console > System > General > Server Information.
  4. Assign Private RPC number to DSO:
    1. Navigate to Server Information Ports and Queues
    2. Verify that the private number that you want to assign is available in the Server Queue table.
    3. Navigate to Server Information > Connection Settings.
    4. Open the DSO tab.
    5. In the DSO Local RPC Program Number field, enter the appropriate RPC program number.
  5. Add the connection details of the remote BMC Remedy AR System Server:

    1. Navigate to Server Information > Connection Settings.
    2. Open the DSO tab.
    3. In the left table field, enter the following details of the remote server:
      • Name of the remote BMC Remedy AR System server hosting BMC HR Case Management
      • Assigned RPC number
      • Port  (if applicable)
    4. In the right table field, the following details of the remote server:
      • Name of the remote BMC Remedy AR System server hosting BMC HR Case Management
      • DSO Password.
  6. Add Source server and Polling interval details:

    1. Navigate to Server Information > DSO.

    2. Enter Source server = BMC  Remedy AR System Server name (with BMC Remedy IT Service Management).

    3. Keep the other default values.

    4. Click Apply.

  7. Add two Distributed Logical Mapping Entries for BMC HR Case Management and BMC Remedy ITSM servers
    1. Navigate to http://<Your_MT_Name>:8080/arsys/forms/<ITSM_Server_Name>/Distributed+Logical+Mapping
    2. Click New Request.
    3. From your planning sheet, enter the values for the Physical Name and Logical Name parameters for your both servers.

  8. Add the distributed fields on forms in the Development Studio:

    1. Log in to Development Studio as a BMC Remedy AR System Server administrator in the Base Development mode.
    2. Navigate to All Objects > Forms
    3. Search for INT:FNDHRS:SyncData_Console, click it, and make the following changes:
      1. On the navigation panel, select Form> Add Distributed Fields form, and select Basic.
      2. Click OK to save the form.
    4. Search for COL:LOAD:People, click it, and make the following changes:
      1. On the navigation panel, select Form > Add Distributed Fields form, and select Basic.
      2. Click OK to save the form.
    5. Restart BMC Remedy IT Service Management  services. 

To configure the server hosting BMC HR Case Management

  1. Change the dsoj setting:

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\Conf\armonitor.cfg.

    2. Search for “dsoj”.
    3. Go to the beginning of this line and check if its commented out (“#”).
    4. If yes, remove the “#”, and save the armonitor.cfg.
    5. Restart BMC Remedy AR System Server to apply the changes.
  2. Log in to BMC Remedy AR System Server as Administrator.
  3. Navigate to AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console> System > General > Server Information.
  4. Assign a Private RPC number to DSO:
    1. Navigate to Server Information > Ports and Queues.
    2. In the Server Queue table, add the private number that is within the same range that is assigned on the BMC Remedy AR System Server with BMC Remedy ITSM.
    3. Navigate to Server Information > Connection Settings. 
    4. Open the DSO tab.
    5. In the DSO Local RPC Program Number field, enter the appropriate RPC program number.
  5. Add the connection details of the remote BMC Remedy AR System Server:

    1. Navigate to  Server Information > Connection Settings.
    2. Open the DSO tab.
    3. In the left table field, the following details of the remote server:
      • Name of the remote BMC Remedy AR System Server hosting BMC Remedy IT Service Management 
      • Assigned RPC number
      • Port  (if applicable)
    4. In the right table field, the following details of the remote server:
      • Name of the remote BMC Remedy AR System Server name hosting BMC Remedy IT Service Management
      • DSO Password
  6. Add Source server and Polling interval details:

    1. Navigate to Server Information > DSO.
    2. Enter Source server = BMC  Remedy AR System Server name (with BMC HR Case Management).
    3. Keep the other default values.
    4. Click Apply.
  7. Add two Distributed Logical Mapping Entries for BMC HR Case Management and BMC Remedy ITSM servers:
    1. Navigate to http://<Your_MT_Name>:8080/arsys/forms/<HRCM_Server_Name>/Distributed+Logical+Mapping
    2. Click New Request.
    3. From your planning sheet,  enter the  values for Physical  Name and Logical Name parameters for your both servers.

  8. Add the distributed fields to the forms in Development Studio:
    1. Log in to Development Studio as a BMC Remedy AR System Server Administrator in the Base Development mode.
    2. Navigate to All Objects > Forms
    3. Search for INT:FNDHRS:SyncData_Console, click on it, and make the following changes:
      1. On the navigation panel, select Form > Add Distributed Fields form, and select Basic.
      2. Click OK to save the form.
    4. Search for COL:LOAD:People, and click on it. Make the following changes:
      1. On the navigation panel, select Form > Add Distributed Fields form, and select Basic.
      2. Click OK to save the form.
    5. Restart BMC HR Case Management services.
