Reconciling fields, view, and fields in view overlay
This topic provides information about the how to reconcile the following objects in BMC Remedy Developer Studio:
- Field
- View
- Fields in View overlay
Field and View object reconciliation
A single instance of the form object is used for forms, fields, and views reconciliation. However, when you open a field or view for reconciliation from the Objects to Reconcile list, you will see all field properties on that form that need to be reconciled. To view the form changes, you must use the Forms list.
For field, view, and fields in view reconciliation, when you open any object from the Objects to Reconcile list, the Differences List for the field or view appears. The Differences List provides a list of all the fields on that form or view. When you double-click any property from the Difference List, you see either the Editor tab or the Properties tab for reconciliation. The Editor tab displays the list of definitions and the Properties tab displays the list of properties.
To reconcile objects from the snapshot results
- In the AR System Navigator, open Snapshots Results on your upgraded server and double-click Objects to Reconcile.
The Objects to Reconcile list is displayed. (If you have not created this list, see Performing AR reconciliation to learn how.) Expand the Field, View, or Fields in View Overlay list.
Double-click the object, or right-click the object and click View Differences.
The Differences List with all the properties that need to be reconciled is displayed. For information about the icons in the Differences List, see Reviewing the changes using the Differences List.
Note
You must select the pre-upgrade server from the Settings panel so that you can reconcile the object directly by double-clicking it.
Double-click the item for which you want to see the differences.
The Difference Editor for the item appears. You must use the Editor tab or Properties tab for reconciliation. The Editor tab displays the list of definitions, and the Properties tab displays the list of properties. For more information, see Reviewing the object definitions using the Difference Editor.
- Check and reconcile the properties by replicating them from the new definition to the overlay definition. You can reconcile your properties using the following methods:
- Click Move from Old to replace your overlay object property with the old object property. You might use this option to replace modifications if other changes have made the modifications obsolete, but where you still do not want the recent changes that BMC made.
Click Move from New to replace your overlay object property with the new object property introduced after upgrade. This option adopts changes that BMC made into your overlay, replacing anything that you have modified.
Note
You can use the above substeps for a specific node level only.
- Right-click to use the Copy and Paste options only where you want to directly replace the overlay object property with the new object property.
You can use these options for the entire section only. For example, you cannot copy an individual check box from the new definition and paste it in the overlay definition. For more information about the existing copy and paste feature in BMC Remedy Developer Studio, see Saving and copying objects in the BMC Remedy AR System online documentation.- Right-click the panel that you want to reconcile from the new definition and select Copy.
Right-click the same panel in the overlay definition and select Paste.
The existing overlay object is updated to replace the old panel with the changes from the new panel.Note
For lists, permissions, and associated forms, the existing overlay object is updated to merge the changes from the new definition without losing the customizations.
Manually edit the changes from the new definition property into your overlay definition property.
You must compare your new definition property with the overlay definition property and modify your overlay object manually to reconcile the changes.Note
For complex properties, verify the property values in the new definition and reconcile the changes in your overlay definition by editing the property inline.
- For Fields in View:
- Click Remove from View Overlay if:
- You want to remove your field customization for that view.
- If there is no customization in the overlay view and you want to remove the field from the view overlay.
See Removing fields from view overlays from the BMC Remedy AR System online documentation. If BMC has updated a view and changed something about a field, and you like the change, you can select Remove from View Overlay to inherit only what BMC has done. Then, you will inherit any changes BMC makes in the future, and will not have to maintain the field in the view in future upgrades.
Click Delete View Overlay if there is no customization in the overlay view and you want to remove all of the fields from the view overlay. You want to use the new BMC view and no longer want to make any changes to it.
See Deleting overlay objects from the BMC Remedy AR System online documentation.Note
Deleting the overlay will also remove all of the fields from the view overlay.
- Click Remove from View Overlay if:
- For Fields, to change the overlay type of the granular component to No overlay, click Remove from Granular Overlay. Based on the property, if it is a permission or other definition, the overlay type is set to No overlay. See Field overlays
After updating the properties, click Apply to apply the changes to your overlay.
If you go to the next difference without applying the changes, your changes are lost. Also, you must save the entire object to save the changes.- Copy or edit all the properties for your object as mentioned in step 5.
Click Next Difference or Previous Difference to navigate through the Differences List instead of scrolling through the list.
You can also go to the top of the list by using First Diff .Note
You can also click the Next Field Difference and Previous Field Difference icons to navigate from one field difference to another field difference in the list.
- Save the properties and select the fields from the list which you want to mark as reconciled. All the fields of that form or view appears in the list. If you click:
- Yes — the Reconciled check box for the selected fields is selected in the Objects to Reconcile list indicating that the object is reconciled.
- No — the Reconciled check box is not selected for any field in the Objects to Reconcile list indicating that you have not completed reconciliation.
To reconcile all the objects, repeat steps 2 through 8.
Note
You can also use the Reconciled check box to keep track of the objects that are already reconciled. The check box is automatically selected when you confirm that you have completed reconciliation after saving the changes.
- Save the changes to complete reconciliation.
Important
After saving the changes and closing the object, when you open the object again from the list, the Objects to reconcile list does not display the properties that are already reconciled. When you turn the Only show changes to reconcile filter OFF, you will see all the changes including the ones that are already reconciled.
To reconcile fields from the Objects list
If you know the objects that are modified in the the new definition or you want to compare your overlay objects manually with the old definition and new definition, you can directly open the Objects list from All Objects and reconcile them. For steps to reconcile, see Reconciling form, field, and view Objects using the objects list in BMC Remedy AR System online documentation.
