Performing the migration
Use the migration utility to move knowledge articles from BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management to BMC Helix Innovation Suite Knowledge Management (ISKM). The migration process transfers article content, metadata, relationships, and supported attachments to ISKM.
The migration tracks progress for each task. After migration and indexing are complete, you can enable ISKM and start using the migrated articles.
Before you begin
Before migrating knowledge articles from BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management, make sure the following prerequisites are met:
- You have administrator permissions.
- Prerequisites required for enabling ISKM are completed. For details, see Configuring BMC Helix Innovation Suite Knowledge Management as a knowledge provider for BMC Helix ITSM.
- Custom templates are prepared and validated, if applicable. For details, see Preparing custom templates for migration.
- You have reviewed key considerations.
To migrate BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management articles
- As an administrator, log in to BMC Helix ITSM.
- Click Settings.
- Expand Helix IS Knowledge Management and click Enabling IS Knowledge Management.

- On the Enabling Helix Innovation Suite Knowledge Management (ISKM) page, make sure that you have completed the required prerequisites.

The steps listed are displayed based on the available BMC Helix ITSM: Knowledge Management data in your environment.
For example, the following steps might be displayed:- Migrate Howto Articles
- Migrate KCS Articles
- Migrate Reference Articles
- Migrate Known Error Articles
- Migrate Custom Articles
- Run RTF reference correction utility
The Status column initially shows New.
- Click Initiate migration.
The system starts the migration and updates the task status as the process runs. You can monitor progress in the task table. - Once all tasks are in Completed status, click Next and Initiate indexing.
Indexing processes the migrated data and makes articles searchable in ISKM and integrated applications. - After indexing is complete, confirm the prerequisites message and enable ISKM.

Post migration validation
After enabling ISKM, validate the migrated data to confirm that articles are correctly available and usable.
Perform the following checks:
- Review a sample of articles across different templates.
- Verify that article content, formatting, and structure are preserved.
- Check that inline images and attachments are displayed correctly.
- Validate article relationships and linked records.
- Confirm that articles are searchable in ISKM and that search returns expected results.
- Verify metadata, such as categories, company, and language.
- Confirm that knowledge article links redirect correctly to ISKM.
If issues are identified, review migration logs and configuration settings.
