Managing time zone settings

You can perform the following tasks for the time zone settings in the Calendar.

To update the time zone record

You must perform the following procedure to avoid any discrepancies in the date and time details of business events. You must indicate the Action Request System time zone on the time zone record.

  1. Log on to Mid Tier as an AR System administrator.
  2. Open the CFG:Time Zone form.
  3. Search for the record corresponding to the Action Request System time zone.
For example, if the Action Request System is set to (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada), search for that time zone record on the CFG:Time Zone form.
  4. Set the value of Set Server Time Zone to Yes.
  5. Set the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes to Yes, if daylight saving time is applicable.
  6. Click Save.

To set the time zone in your Action Request System user preference record

If the Change Management application in your environment accesses a Mid Tier server that is located in a different time zone, the time information that appears in your Calendar is for the Mid Tier server location, not your location.

For example, you work in the Pacific time zone and you are assigned a change that should start at 10:00 A.M. PT. However, your Mid Tier server is in the Eastern time zone (which is three hours ahead of Pacific time), so your Change Calendar shows a scheduled start time of 1:00 P.M.

You can fix this discrepancy by indicating your local time zone in the Action Request System user preference record that is associated with your Action Request System log on ID.

  1. Log on to the Action Request System as an administrator.
  2. Select Applications > AR System Administration > AR System Administration Console.
  3. On the AR System Administration Console, click User Preferences > Search User Preferences.
  4. Search for your user record, and then select it.
  5. Click the Locale tab.
  6. From the menu beside the Time Zone field, select your time zone.
  7. Click Save.

To add your time zone

The Calendar provides predefined time zones out-of-the-box. However, if your time zone is not available in this list, you can add your time zone in the Olson format.

Important

It is important that you set your time zone correctly. If your time zone is incorrect, you might see a difference in the time zones in your personal calendar when you import the iCalendar (ICS) files that you exported out of the Calendar.

  1. Log on to Mid Tier as an AR System administrator.
  2. Open the NGC:TimeZoneMapping form in New request mode.
  3. Enter the following values:

    Field

    Value

    Timezone ID

    GMT +/- time Example: GMT-08:00

    Olson Timezone ID

    Area/Location Example: America/New_York

    Status

    New

  4. Click Save.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
