Leveraging Service Catalog Curator for creating services

As a catalog administrator, you create and publish catalog services in the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog, enabling end users to submit requests for IT assets, training and certification approval, laptop repair, office supplies, and so on. Creating services manually takes longer due to the effort needed to prepare the catalog profiles, translations, questionnaires, and cost estimation.

Leverage the BMC HelixGPT-powered Service Catalog Curator to expedite this process with the help of AI conversations that collect essential information from you and automatically create services. It dynamically generates questionnaires, suggests cost adjustments, and provides real-time recommendations, empowering you to efficiently create, refine, and optimize services. This AI agent significantly minimizes the developer's manual effort and saves time, all without requiring extensive expertise.

Important

You can create new Catalog-native services with the Service Catalog Curator. However, you cannot edit the existing catalog service available in the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog.

How Service Catalog Curator works

Catalog Assistant

Service Catalog Curator lays a solid foundation for creating catalog services by providing intelligent suggestions and automating catalog authoring steps. This AI agent works in the following way:

  • User interaction in UI— Access Service Catalog Curator from the Catalog Assistant tab on the UI. Enter the prompt for a service creation. You can provide a scenario and include your specific requirements and localization needs; for example, Create a service for the Software installation request scenario with manager approval, work order fulfillment, and localization with Canadian French.
  • Structured tabular response generation— The Service Catalog Curator starts creating a service draft in a simple readable format. It analyzes the input and generates a structured summary in tabular format, including a list of:
    • Basic Service Details
    • Catalog Profile
    • Workflow & Questionnaire
    • Service Cost & Quantity
  • Real-time modifications and user confirmation—  Verify the details and request for necessary changes. Enter a prompt for any parameter you want to modify. The Service Catalog Curator dynamically updates the details, presents a modified format via chat, and asks for your confirmation. You can adjust the parameters before confirming the service creation. After confirmation, real-time modifications are not supported.
  • Service generation— After you confirm by entering any assertive reply like Looks good, the Service Catalog Curator starts creating a service draft in the BMC Helix Digital Workplace Catalog.
  • Execution tracking— The Service Catalog Curator streams the status during execution. You can view the progress of service creation in the following stages:
    • Create Service stage
    • Create Catalog Profile stage
    • Create Questionnaire stage
    • Service Cost and Quantity stage
  • Service completion— After the Service Catalog Curator successfully creates the service, the Service Name and Service ID are displayed in the response. If any issues occur during service creation, the assistant provides error details along with troubleshooting steps.

The new AI-generated service is readily available in draft form to modify and customize in the BMC Helix Digital Workplace Catalog console, allowing complete control and flexibility. Like other manually created services in the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog, fine-tune the draft to suit your business requirements and publish it to make it available to end users.

Important

If you want to ask for a specific service name, ensure the new name is unique and does not conflict with existing services in the catalog. If you attempt to change the service's version and request the same name, the service will not be created.
