Installation and upgrade

Direct upgrade from ProactiveNet or Infrastructure Management 9.6.00.002

You can now upgrade from ProactiveNet or Infrastructure Management 9.6.00.002.

As part of the upgrade process, you need to migrate the ProactiveNet or Infrastructure Management data.

New installation utility for App Visibility agent for Java

The App Visibility agent for Java has a new installation utility. This installation utility can be used for installing, upgrading, and uninstalling. Included also are revised silent install and upgrade files.For more information about installing the agent, see Installing an App Visibility agent for Java.

Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition

Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition

The Cloud Probe component of BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition is no longer supported on the following operating systems:

  • CentOS 5.8 and later (64-bit) 
  • Ubuntu 15.10

App Visibility Manger server

TrueSight App Visibility Manager components are no longer supported on the following operating systems:

  • App Visibility server components. The App Visibility server components (portal, collector, and proxy) are no longer supported on following operating systems:
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 3
    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP 4
  • App Visibility agent for Java. The App Visibility agent for Java is no longer supported on 32-bit operating systems.
  • App Visibility agent for .NET. The App Visibility agent for .NET is no longer supported on Windows 2008 SP2.

Launch context-aware applications from events

Launch context-aware applications from events and lower your mean time to repair (MTTR) while resolving events. Get additional information about a problem by accessing other applications based on the data present in the events.

You can enable this capability by creating cross-launch URLs for any application and by specifying a set of conditions (or slot values) that must be present in the event for the URL to be accessible. You can also create cross-launch URLs with no specific conditions (with no slots specified).

This feature reduces the time and complexity involved in obtaining information from other applications – starting from obtaining the correct application URL, getting the right permissions to view the information on the application, and then finally locating the information that you need on the application.

Server threshold for unique instances

You can now set the server threshold for particular unique instances while defining a monitoring policy.

Multiple instances can be associated with the same device. Furthermore, multiple instances can exist with the same name (under a different hierarchy of monitors). In this scenario, defining the server threshold by specifying the instance name only or by specifying the instance name with the device name can result in the server threshold getting applied on all the instances. 

This feature enables you to specify the complete path to the monitor instance to avoid applying the server threshold on unintended instances.

Data confidentiality for applications monitored by App Visibility agents

You can now define a confidentiality policy to prevent sensitive code-level diagnostics information from leaving the monitored server computer. Sensitive information does not reach the network and is not displayed. The policy identifies method codes with confidential information and the hiding mode for the methods. For information about creating and managing confidentiality policies, see Configuring an App Visibility confidentiality policy to hide sensitive information.

Updated ciphers for App Visibility Manager for improved security

For improved security, weak ciphers were removed and stronger ciphers were added to the App Visibility Manager server components (App Visibility portal, App Visibility collector, and App Visibility proxy).

The default cipher string of the tomcat.ciphers property in the the portal.properties, collector.properties, and apm-proxy.properties files no longer include ciphers that are weaker and less secure.

Ciphers in upgraded components are not changed. For information about changing ciphers, see Enabling communication between App Visibility agents and server components.
