Limiting the length of the PATROL Agent data

The PATROL Agent sends the monitored data to the TrueSight Infrastructure Management in a text string format. The variable /AgentSetup/textParameterLength is used to limit the length of this text string that is sent to the TrueSight Infrastructure Management.

The following table describes the details associated with the variable /AgentSetup/textParameterLength.

You can set any of the following values to the /AgentSetup/textParameterLength variable:

  • Blank: The PATROL Agent sends the monitored data as is. The text string length is not restricted.
  • Greater than or equal to 1 (>= 1): The PATROL Agent truncates the text string length as per the assigned value and sends it to the TrueSight Infrastructure Management.
  • Lesser than or equal to 0 (<= 0): The PATROL Agent switches off the streaming of monitored data to the TrueSight Infrastructure Management.

Note

Length indicates the number of characters/bytes in the text string that is sent to the PATROL Agent.

Recommendation

Specify a value to the /AgentSetup/textParameterLength variable as per your requirement. If you do not specify a value to this variable, the PATROL Agent sends the monitored data without restricting the length that might be as large as 2GB. The TrueSight Infrastructure Management is not prepared to receive such a large data chunk at once.
