Monitoring PATROL Agents availability

PATROL is a systems, applications, and event management tool that provides an environment to monitor the status of vital resources in the distributed environment you are managing. For more information about PATROL, see PATROL information

PATROL Agents are connected to the integration service in the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server, and collect data about the resources in the managed environment.

When using TrueSight Presentation Server to manage your infrastructure, it is useful to monitor the status of the PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Relevant attributes

The following attributes help you monitor the status of the PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Note

These attributes refer to setting thresholds based on the monitored environment size (small, medium, or large). To determine relevant threshold settings for the monitored environment size, see the Sizing chart for data collection of the Integration Service table in the Sizing charts and guidelines for data and event management environments.

The information in the sizing charts provide guidelines for the the number of PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server environment.

Attribute

Description

This attribute reports the number of PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server that is connected to the TrueSight Presentation Server.

It helps you understand if the number of connected PATROL Agents is in proportion to the total number of PATROL agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Set the threshold for this attribute. You are notified if the number of connected PATROL Agents drops below a certain number based on the environment size (small, medium, and large). When the threshold values are met, the KM generates an alarm and triggers an event.

This attribute reports the number of PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

It helps you understand if the number of disconnected PATROL Agents is in proportion to the total number of PATROL Agents integrated with the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Set the threshold for this attribute to so you are notified if the number of connected PATROL Agents drops below a certain number based on the environment size (small, medium, and large). When the threshold values are met, the KM generates an alarm and triggers an event.

Suggested actions

If the thresholds that you set for these attributes are breached, an alert is generated that triggers an event. When an event occurs, check the following issues:

  • In the TrueSight console, see if there are unneeded, disconnected PATROL Agents, and delete these PATROL Agents.

  • If the disconnected PATROL agents number is high in comparison to the total number of the PATROL Agents available in the TrueSight Presentation Server, check the PATROL agents true status and if the agents are connected to the integration service.
