Java support for TrueSight monitoring solutions

This topic describes BMC's support for Java starting from January 1, 2019, and actions required for TrueSight monitoring solutions.

Overview

Recent announcements by Oracle about commercializing Java have resulted in questions about how BMC will handle Java in the TrueSight products.

Impact

  • Oracle Java 8.0 will not be bundled with the product installation files.
  • TrueSight monitoring solutions support OpenJDK or vendor-specific Java versions as mentioned in the table below. 
  • Some vendors of monitored platforms and databases do not support OpenJDK. Monitoring using OpenJDK is possible only when both the monitored system and the KM support the usage of the same Java distribution. For more information, refer to the vendor documentation.
  • BMC will not provide Java updates. BMC recommends that you acquire the supported Java versions.

Monitoring solutions that are not impacted by this change are indicated as No in the Java used? column. No user action is required to continue using these monitoring solutions.
