Understanding service health

Asset discovery and data ingestion, Topology reconciliation and dynamic service modeling, and Service health monitoring

The power of AI/ML provides dynamic service modeling and topology reconciliation while ML algorithms isolate problem root cause and remediate issues proactively. Service dashboards provide a unified, service-centric view of the dynamically changing IT infrastructure.

Asset discovery and data ingestion

To understand service health, you first need to discover all the assets from your IT environment. You can also collect event, metrics, and topology data from various third-party products to make accurate, informed, and data-driven decisions.

  • Set up BMC Helix Discovery to automatically discover IT assets and their topological relationships. For more information, see Setting up and going live.
  • Collect performance and health data of your system by Deploying Knowledge Modules (KMs) and configuring BMC PATROL Agent to help your system understand what data to collect and configuring monitoring policies in BMC Helix Operations Management.
For more information, see Collecting data by configuring monitoring policies.

  • Collect log data by using BMC Helix Log Analytics for analyzing and understanding the root cause of an issue.
For more information, see Collecting logs.

  • Configure BMC Helix Intelligent Integrations to ingest data from third-party products.
For more information, see Integrating by using BMC Helix Intelligent Integrations.

Topology reconciliation and dynamic service modeling

After the data is ingested, the CIs and CI Kinds are discovered and the topology reconciliation happens in BMC Helix Discovery. The reconciled data is then available in BMC Helix AIOps.

You can use this data for creating service models to understand system health.

You can use the dynamic service modeling capability in BMC Helix AIOps to expedite the service model creation process. The service topology configuration is updated dynamically whenever there is a change in the underlying system configuration, thereby providing real-time insight into the system health.

Create service models by using blueprints to dynamically synchronize the underlying infrastructure changes.
For more information, see Creating-service-blueprints and Creating-service-models.

Service health monitoring

You can monitor the service health in BMC Helix AIOps. The out-of-the-box service dashboard helps in quickly visualizing and analyzing the system health. In addition, you can create custom dashboards to track various KPIs and view metrics for selected services.
