Configuring BMC Helix ChatOps application in Microsoft Teams


As a Microsoft Teams administrator, you install the BMC Helix ChatOps application that sends notifications about the impacted services and situations to Microsoft Teams users or channels proactively.

By using the BMC Helix ChatOps application, operators can also send commands and get information about the overall health of the environment in the application. Additionally, operators can perform some actions available for an impacted service or situation. 

This topic describes the steps that you must perform before you start using Microsoft Teams application for BMC Helix. 

Before you begin

As a Microsoft Teams administrator, ensure that you have the following permissions and information required to configure the application: 

  • Administrative permissions and credentials to access BMC Helix AIOps.
  • Microsoft 365 administrator permissions to add and configure the application for your organization.
  • The BMC Helix Single Sign-On tenant ID for your tenant from the BMC Support Team.
  • Appropriate BMC Helix AIOps license entitlements.

Important

The integration of BMC Helix AIOps with Microsoft Teams (for the BMC Helix ChatOps application) is supported only in SaaS environments.


To add the BMC Helix ChatOps application to Microsoft Teams

Go to Microsoft Teams > Apps and add the BMC Helix ChatOps application available in Microsoft Teams.

Important

If you do not see the application under Apps, contact BMC Customer Support to obtain the required files and install the application in your Microsoft Teams. Verify whether your BMC Helix ChatOps application license entitlements include access to the BMC Helix ChatOps application capability. 

When you contact BMC Customer Support, provide the following details: 

  • BMC Helix tenant URL
  • Microsoft Teams tenant ID
  • Contact details for the Microsoft Teams administrator who can approve notifications

To configure the BMC Helix ChatOps application

Perform the following steps to configure the connection with BMC Helix AIOps: 

  1. Go to Microsoft Teams > Apps > BMC Helix ChatOps application
    You are asked to authorize by logging on to your BMC account. 
  2. Enter the Sign in command.

  3. Click 1. Grant permissions

  4. Select a Microsoft Teams administrative account, view the permissions required for connecting with BMC applications, and click Accept.

    If successful, the following message appears.

    Your application is now ready to connect to BMC products. 
  5. In the chat window, click 2. Connect to BMC.
    The BMC Helix products that are available to connect appear.

  6. Select any one of the following options and continue with the steps:

    1. Select the BMC Helix Single Sign-On region to use for the Microsoft Teams tenant.
    2. Enter the BMC Helix Single Sign-On tenant ID.
    3. Enter the BMC Helix Innovation Suite URL.

    AIOps

    BMC Helix AIOps

    1. Select the BMC Helix Single Sign-On region to use for the Microsoft Teams tenant.
    2. Enter the BMC Helix Single Sign-On tenant ID.
    3. Enter the URL for BMC Helix AIOps.
    Example: https://orgname.onbmc.com

    Note: Enter the URL in the exact format as shown in the example.

    1. Select the BMC Helix Single Sign-On region to use for this Microsoft Teams tenant.
    2. Enter the BMC Helix Single Sign-On tenant ID.
    3. Enter the URL for BMC Helix AIOps.
    4. Enter the BMC Helix Innovation Suite URL.

    Depending upon the options that you selected, a message appears that your tenant configuration is stored. For example, if you have configured BMC Helix AIOps only, the following message is displayed.

    Important

    After the configuration step is complete, share the URLs shown in the message with BMC Customer Support for completion of the configuration process. After BMC completes the process, you can sign in to the application and perform the next steps. 

  7. Click Sign in.
    You are directed to the BMC Helix AIOps tenant URL. 
  8. Enter the tenant administrator credentials for BMC Helix AIOps. 
    A message appears that your configuration is successful and BMC Helix AIOps is now connected with the Microsoft Teams application.

  9. Use the Install for all option and install the application for all users in your organization.
