Renaming an SAP system for ERP 6.0


While operating an SAP system landscape, you might want to rename an existing SAP system. For example, you might want to change the characteristics of an existing SAP system, such as changing a physical host name to a virtual host name or changing the SAP system ID. Several BMC Server Automation BLPackages constitute the SAP system rename on the target virtual machine. SAP system rename is a post-deployment action that is executed on the existing ERP system. Enter all the requested parameters and then execute the system rename action.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have completed the following activities before requesting the service offering:

  • Create or update the SAP user DDIC in every client of the source and target system with the same password.
  • Create or update the SAP user CLMADM in every client of the source and target system with the same password.
  • Verify that there is an authorization role with access to the SAP transaction ZBDLSMAINTAIN and activity BDLS in the authorization object ZBMC_SCAPA.
  • Maintain the SAP logical system pair using the SAP transaction ZBDLSMAINTAIN.

Overview of the process to rename an SAP system

BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management:

  • Executes the file deploy job SAP_SYSRENAME_TRANSPORT_v1.0 to import the transport on the target machine.
  • Executes the file deploy job SAP_SYSRENAME_ERP60_EHP5_NW702_ABAP_RHEL64_ORA11203_MEDIA_v1.0 to copy the SAP media to the target machine.
  • Runs the NSH script SAP_SYSRENAME_ERP60_EHP5_NW702_ABAP_RHEL64_ORA11203_FSC_v1.0 to rename the file systems.
  • Executes the BLPackage SAP_SYSRENAME_ERP60_EHP5_NW702_ABAP_RHEL64_ORA11203_SYSRENE_v1.0

To rename an SAP system for ERP 6.0

  1. Log on to the Cloud Portal.
  2. Navigate to Service Instances.
  3. Click an existing ERP service.
  4. In the toolbar, click Modify ActionsModify Actions icon_.jpg and select System Rename from the drop-down menu.

    The System Rename process is divided into three phases:
    Phase 1 – Import Transport
    Phase 2 – Media Copy for Rename
    Phase 3 – Rename Execution
  5. Select Import Transport and then click Next.

  1. Enter the Target Client Number parameter.

  1. Click Next

  1. Review the selections and click Submit to submit the request.
  2. Repeat Steps 1 through 4.
  3. Select Media Copy for Rename and click Next.

  4. There are no parameters to enter; click Submit to start the media copy for rename in the background through BMC Server Automation.

  1. Repeat steps 1 through 4.
  2. Select Rename Execution.

  3. Enter values for the respective parameters.

  1. Once all of the parameters are defined, click Next.

  2. Verify the information that you entered and click Submit

After you submit the request, the system rename execution starts.

Limitations when renaming an SAP system

The following limitations pertain to renaming an SAP system for ERP 6.0:

  • The <SAPSID> is not validated for restricted <SID>.
  • There is no option to enter the Master password.
