About the migration tools

The following topics are provided:

Migration tools

You must contact BMC support to get the migration tools. For more information about contacting support, see Support information.

Using the migration tools, you can:

  • Transfer only configuration settings, with or without archived workspaces
  • Transfer both configuration settings and data, with or without archived workspaces

The following tools are available for performing the migration and must be run in the following order:

  1. The Migration Advisor Tool
    • The Migration Advisor Report—It is created by the Migration Advisor Tool and the report itself is used as a tool in the migration process.
  2. The Migration Export Tool
  3. The Migration Import Tool

The Migration Advisor Tool

The Migration Advisor Tool creates a report that is to be used as a tool in the migration process.

You must run the Migration Advisor Tool on your system having FootPrints 11.6.01 or later version and review the report before you run the Migration Export Tool and the Migration Import Tool.

Notes

- The Migration Advisor Tool runs without affecting your existing FootPrints data.

- You can run the Migration Advisor Tool as many times as you want.

Using the Migration Advisor Tool, you can:

  • Analyze your system having FootPrints 11.6.01 or later version.
  • Detect issues specific to your configuration.
  • Estimate how much time and disk space are needed for the export and import operations.
  • Generate the Migration Advisor Report containing important information about your migration.

Tip

The Migration Advisor Tool performs analysis and reporting. Hence, BMC recommends you to run the Migration Advisor Tool during non-peak periods.

The Migration Advisor Report

The Migration Advisor Report:

  • Consists of high-level migration plan summary.
  • Provides information about your FootPrints version, migration version, time required, disk space estimates, and so on.
  • Contains a list of detected issues that apply to your migration and issues that apply to all migrations.
  • Contains a list of items that are not migrated.
  • Provides links to support articles that explain issues and suggest mitigation.
  • Provides step-by-step migration plan with sections for pre-migration tasks, backing up and restoring your system, post-migration tasks, and so on.

Important

Before you proceed to the next step, review the Migration Advisor Report thoroughly and address the issues, as required. As you work on the issues, you can refresh the Migration Advisor Report by running the Migration Advisor Tool, at any point of time.

The Migration Export Tool

Use the Migration Export Tool to back up the configuration settings and data of the FootPrints version 11.6.01 or later, on your system.

Important

BMC recommends you to run the Migration Export Tool when your system is idle. Running this tool while your system is active could degrade system performance, and it is not recommended to make changes to the system while you are exporting.

The Migration Import Tool

Use this tool to:

  • Import the back up into your system having newly installed FootPrints 12.0 or later.
  • Restore the configuration settings and data.

Important

BMC recommends you to first run this tool in a test environment.

Run the tool in the production environment only after you have:

  • A full understanding of your migrated configuration.
  • A basic understanding of how to navigate through the product.
  • Mitigated the issues, as required.
