Special considerations for installing on Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 operating systems

The BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server installation is permitted only on non-global zones in Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 operating systems. You will not be able to upgrade previous versions of BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server which are installed on global zones. If you need to upgrade on a global zone, contact BMC Customer Support for assistance.

Installation on Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 operating systems is supported as follows:

  • Global zone installation (non-global zones present)—not supported
  • Non-global zone installation (sparse non-global zone)—not supported
  • Global zone installation (no non-global zones present)—supported
  • Non-global zone installation (full non-global zone)—supported

Before you begin

  • Ensure that there are no Integration Services installed on the computer where the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server will be installed. If any Integration Services are installed on this computer, the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server installation fails.
  • Ensure that the computer on which you are installing the product adheres to the hardware, operating system, platform, and software requirements listed in System requirements and product compatibility.
  • Ensure that the computer on which you are installing the product adheres to the requirements described in Preparing for your installation.
  • On Linux, ensure that you install the required libraries.
  • BMC recommends that you use MobaXterm as the UI to install Infrastructure Management on Linux/Solaris systems.
  • Ensure that you install the csh and tcsh shells.

To install the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server with Sudo permissions

You can install the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server as a user with root permissions or a non-root user with Sudo permissions. To install with Sudo permissions, perform the following steps:

  1. Log on as a root user.
  2. Create a user account on the system using the useradd command and create a password for this user.
  3. Open the /etc/sudoers file from the root directory and add the following line at the end of the file:

    bppmadmin ALL=(ALL) PASSWD:ALL

where bppmadmin is the user you created.

  4. Save the file and exit from the root directory.
  5. Log on to the system using the bppmadmin account and run the sudo sh install.sh command.
  6. You are prompted for the sudo account password. Enter the password and the installation begins and completes successfully.

After installation, you must use sudo in every pw CLI commands such as sudo pw viewhistory, sudo pw admin, sudo pw ver, and sudo pw database archive.

To install the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server with Sybase as database

  1. Access the installation program by using one of these methods:

    • DVD — Insert the installation DVD. In the <installLocation>/Linux or <installLocation>/Solaris directory, open the BPPMServer directory.
    • BMC Software EPD website (http://webapps.bmc.com/epd) —  For more information about downloading the Infrastructure Management software, see Downloading the installation files.
  2. Apply executable rights to all the installation files by running the following command:

    chmod -R 755 installationDirectoryFolderName

installationDirectoryFolderName is the name of the folder that contains all the installation files.

    For example, chmod -R 755 Disk1

Open the command prompt using the Run as administrator option and run the following command:
    ./install.sh

    Note

BMC recommends that you do not use the setup.bin file to start the installation process, and use a binary mode if you are moving the files from one computer to another.

    Important

When installing on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 or 7.1, use the following command to run the installer:

    install.sh –J ENABLE_SYBASE16_FOR_RHEL7=true

  3. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  4. On the license agreement page, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.

    • The directory in which the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server is installed and all its parent directories must have 755 permissions (read, write, and execute permissions to owner, groups, and others) and must be owned by root as well as the other group. Without these permissions and ownership, you will not be able to log on to the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

    Note
