TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server system requirements

The TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server can be installed on the following operating systems:

Hardware requirements

Note

(Applicable to small and medium environments only) The installer validates the system to check if the following system requirements are met. If your target computer does not meet these requirements, you cannot proceed with the installation (or upgrade).

  • Total RAM (in MB): 32,000
  • Available RAM (in MB): 25,000
  • Total swap space / page file (in MB): 8,000
  • Available swap space / page file (in MB): 8,000

However, in a non-production environment, you can skip the system requirements validation with the -J MINIMAL=true parameter. For more information, see the installing or upgrading instructions.

Support for third-party products

To receive full support for a BMC product, you must have such product installed in a supported environment, as specified in the BMC product documentation. If a third-party vendor cancels support for one of its products (such as an operating system or subsystem), and that third-party product integrates or interacts with the BMC product you have licensed, you must upgrade to a supported version of that third-party product before BMC Customer Support can provide you with support for the affected BMC product. For further information, see BMC's product support policy. Open link

Port availability

The following ports should be available in listen mode:
7, 80, 443, 1099, 1100, 1827, 1828, 1851, 2638, 3084, 3115, 3182, 3183, 8005, 8008, 8009, 8080, 8093, 9149, 12123, 12124, 12126, 12134, 12141, 15000, 45000
For the list of Infrastructure Management components that use these ports and changing the default port number, see Network port schematics for Infrastructure Management.

Note: Port 80 must be available for installing the Apache web server. If any other application is using the port, change the port allocation to make the port 80 available for TrueSight Infrastructure Management installation. On the system where you want to host the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server or the Integration Service, verify the TCP control port (port 80) is available by running the following command from the command line:

netstat -a | grep "LISTENING" | grep "80"
Temporary disk space (/tmp)1 GB with read/write privileges

Red Hat subscription

The product requires some additional libraries to be present on the system (see list below).

The preferred method to add any missing libraries is to use the yum command to fetch the necessary library packages from the RHN (Red Hat Network) repository via the Internet. To use this method, a Red Hat subscription is needed. Register the system by clicking System >Administration > Red Hat Subscription Manager in the menu on the server itself.  After registering the system, you can use yum install to download and install the required libraries from the RHN.

X Windows requirement

If you are not installing TrueSight Infrastructure Management silently, you must install X Windows.

On the Red Hat Enterprise Linux terminal, type yum grouplist and check that X Window System is listed.  If not, then run yum groupinstall 'X Window System' to install the necessary packages.

Required libraries

Ensure that the following libraries are present to install TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server. To install the libraries, the following commands can be used.

Library

Command to install the library on RHEL

Command to install the library on SUSE

libXtst (64-bit)

yum install libXtst.x86_64
            libXtst-1.0.1-3.1
            libX11-devel-1.0.3-11.el5

glibc (32-bit)

glibc (64-bit)

yum install glibc.i686 glibc.x86_64
            glibc-devel-2.5-65
zypper install glibc-32bit glibc

libstdc++ (64-bit)

yum install libstdc++.x86_64
zypper install libstdc++

compat-libstdc++-33 (64-bit)

yum install compat-libstdc++-33.x86_64
zypper install libstdc++33

pam (64-bit)

yum install pam.x86_64
zypper install pam
libfreebl3.soyum install libfreebl3.soN/A

Notes

  • If an error occurs while installing a 32-bit library, try rerunning the install command with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the library. For example, yum install glibc.i686 glibc.x86_64 (RHEL) or zypper glibc-32bit glibc (SUSE).
  • After installing the libraries, check that the libraries are not corrupted.
    • yum check (Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
    • zypper verify (SUSE Linux)
  • BMC products are certified for use on supported operating system versions. BMC does not explicitly test for OS patches/updates that are released after a BMC product is released.
  • BMC products should work fine with minor updates to these supported operating systems. For assistance, please contact BMC Customer Support.
