Managing the BMC AMI Utility Management durations settings

You can specify how long a BMC AMI Utility Manager job is allowed to run. If the job duration exceeds the specified value, BMC AMI Utility Manager does not start processing additional objects. Objects that are already in process are not canceled and are allowed to complete. Use the procedures in this topic to perform the following tasks on the Durations table:

To add a duration

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select or add a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. On the Durations tab, click Add duration

  3. In the BMC AMI Utility Management Duration dialog box, complete the following fields:


    Field

    Description

    Job Name

    Enter a name or pattern for the job. You can use the * or % wildcard, or both.

    Step Name

    Enter a name or pattern to identify the job step. You can use the * or % wildcard, or both.

    Utility ID

    Enter a name or pattern to identify the utility. You can use the * or % wildcard, or both.

    User IDEnter a name or pattern to identify the user who ran the job. You can use the * or % wildcard, or both.

    Comment

    Enter a comment describing the duration.

    Tip

    Hover over a field to view its description.

  4. On the Duration tab, complete the following fields:

    FieldDescription
    DurationEnter the length of time (in minutes) the job can run. Valid values are from 1 through 1440.
    Restart DurationEnter the length of time (in minutes) a restart of the job can run. Valid values are from 1 through 1440.

    Tip

    Hovering over a field lets you view a description.
  5. Click OK.
    is displayed next to each added duration.
  6. Click Save Changes  to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

To edit durations

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Durations table, select a duration that you want to edit and click Edit duration .
    The duration that you are editing is displayed at the top of the dialog box. 
  3. In the Edit BMC AMI Utility Management Duration dialog box, edit the values on the General and Duration tabs.
  4. (Optional) Edit additional durations by using the Previous duration and Next duration  arrows to navigate to another duration.
  5. When you have completed your edits, click OK
      is displayed next to each edited duration.

  6. Verify the edited durations. You can reset the changes, by selecting one or more edited durations and clicking .

  7. (Optional) You can now edit the Criteria, Exceptions, and Schedules settings.
  8. Click  to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

    Important

    Next time you select an edited duration, the Last update field shows the user ID and time stamp of the last update to the duration.

To delete durations

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Durations table, select one or more durations for deletion.
  3. Click Delete durations .
     is displayed next to each duration that you selected to delete.
  4. Verify the durations that you selected to delete. You can undo the deletions by selecting one or more selected durations and clicking .
  5. Click  to save the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

To deactivate durations

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Durations table, select a duration that you want to deactivate and click Edit duration .
  3. In the Edit BMC AMI Utility Management Duration dialog box, select the General tab.
  4. Clear the Active check box.
  5. (Optional) Deactivate additional durations by using the Previous duration and Next duration  arrows to navigate to another duration.
  6. When you have completed your edits, click OK
     is displayed next to each edited duration.
  7. Verify the deactivated durations. You can reset the changes by selecting one or more deactivated durations and clicking .
  8. Click Save Changes  to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.
