Managing a VMware vCloud instance

The topics in this section provide information and instructions for configuring a VMware vCloud instance in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. The VMware vCloud provider type is available out-of-the-box. When you complete the process listed in the following table, you are ready to provision the vCloud service offering.

Note

This material focuses on details, exceptions, and actions that distinguish the VMware vCloud offering from other service offerings. Where applicable, references to the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management supporting procedures are included in these vCloud topics.

The following BMC Communities video (4:35) describes how to configure a VMware vCloud instance in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.

TopicDescription

Registering VMware vCloud providers

To register the provider, you specify account, connection, and ownership information.
Onboarding and offboarding Logical Data CentersAfter registering your VMware vCloud provider type, you can onboard and offboard a Logical Data Center (Organizational Virtual Datacenter or Org vDC in the VMware context). You can also edit the Logical Data Center.
Mapping BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management tenants to the Logical Data CenterOnce you have onboarded the Logical Data Center, you can map BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management tenants to the Logical Data Center.
Managing Logical Data Center user mappings

You can associate Logical Data Center organizations and vCloud users with the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management tenants.

Using Service Blueprints in a vCloud context

Accept or update your vApp template-based service blueprint parameters. This implementation uses auto-generated vApp templates to serve as service blueprints. Most of the values are template defaults and cannot be changed. However, you can modify and add tags to certain network settings.

Defining Service Catalog entries for vCloud

Define your vCloud Service Catalog entries.

Creating the service offering for vCloudYou create the vCloud service offering instance as you would any other instance. BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management administrators can create memory and CPU options and option choices so that end users can modify the memory and CPU configurations after a system is provisioned. Cloud administrators can also enable options for adding or removing a disk, and can configure the service offering instance to deploy software.
Submitting the vCloud service offering instance

You can submit the vCloud service offering instance as you would any other instance. As with other service offerings, you have the ability to stop, start, decommission, and extend the compute container.

Once the configuration process is completed, you then can commission or decommission a vCloud service offering instance much as you would any other instance.
