Managing the file system on a device

By using the File System option, you can view a device's complete directory structure with its files and to copy, move, rename and delete directories and files. You can also edit individual text files within the privacy restrictions set up by the user/administrator of the managed device.

To view the file system

1. From the Welcome page, search for a device or select a device from the list of frequently selected devices.
2. Click Actions > File System.
   The File System tab is displayed.
   

To create a directory

You can create directories in the file structure of the managed device.

1. From the File System tab, select the directory under which the new directory is to be placed.
2. Click Create Directory.
   The New Directory dialog box is displayed.
3. Enter a name for the new directory and then click OK to confirm your addition, otherwise click Cancel.

To run a program

You can directly run a program on the selected device.

1. From the File System tab, select the executable file to be run.
2. Click Actions > Run.
   The Execution Parameters dialog box is displayed.
3. In the Command Line Parameters box, enter the parameters with which the program is to be executed. If the program does not need any parameters, then leave the text box blank.
4. Click OK.

To edit a file

Text files with a size smaller than 200KB can be directly edited in the console.

1. From the File System tab, select the text file to be edited.
2. Click Actions > Edit File.
   The Edit Text File window is displayed with the contents of the file.
3. Make all necessary changes in the file.
4. Click OK at the bottom of the window to confirm the modifications, and to close the window.

To copy and paste a file

You can copy a file and paste it to any directory on the selected device.

1. From the File System tab, select the file to be copied.
2. Click Actions > Copy.
   The Paste File button is displayed.
3. Go to the target directory and click Paste File.

To rename a file

1. From the File System tab, select the file to be renamed.
2. Click Actions > Rename.
3. Edit the file name and press Enter.

To remove a file

1. From the File System tab, select the file to be removed.
2. Click Actions > Remove.
   A confirmation window is displayed.
3. Click Continue.
