Managing registry on a device

A registry is a set of system configuration files. It is a database repository for information about a computer's configuration. The registry is organized hierarchically as a tree and is made up of keys and their subkeys and value entries for each key.

To view a registry

  1. On the Welcome page, search for a device or select a device from the list of frequently selected devices.
  2. Click Actions > Registry.
All the keys associated with the selected device are displayed.

To create a new key

You can create new keys (or subkeys) to be added to a Registry key folder.

  1. Select the registry key folder under which the new key is to be placed.
  2. Click Create Key.
The Create New Key dialog box is displayed.
  3. Enter a name for the new key.
  4. Click OK to confirm.

To create a value

By using the Registry node, you can create new values for an existing key. Three different types of values can be created:

  • String value
  • Binary value
  • DWORD value
  • QWORD value

Use this tool cautiously. If you are unfamiliar with registry, you can make changes that can prevent the managed device from rebooting.

To create a new value, do the following:

  1. Select the key for which the new value is to be created.
  2. Click one of the following: Edit> Create String Value / Create Binary Value / Create DWORD Value / Create QWORD Value.
The new value is automatically created under the key.

You can use the Actions button to edit the value or remove it.
