Monitoring the TrueSight Presentation Server high availability status

The TrueSight Presentation Server in High availability (HA) mode consists of two servers with identical configurations. The first server is the primary server, and the second server is the standby server.

When using TrueSight Presentation Server in HA mode, it is important to confirm that the Primary server is in an active state and the secondary server is in a passive state in case a failover operation is required, due to a planned maintenance or an unplanned outage of the Primary Server that is in an active state.

Relevant attributes

The following attributes help you determine the preparedness for failover of the monitored TrueSight Presentation Server in HA mode.

AttributeDescription
High availability status (HAStatus)

This attribute reports the configured TrueSight Presentation Server's HA status.

Any of the following server status conditions can cause this attribute's metric to be in a RED\CRITICAL or ALARM state.

Primary server statusSecondary server status
ActiveActive
ActiveDown
PassiveActive
PassivePassive
PassiveDown
DownActive
DownPassive
DownDown

This attribute uses the following metric values:

Metric valueDescription

The HA status is good.

The primary server is in an active state and the secondary is in a passive state.

1–1

The HA status is not good.

The primary and secondary server is in one of the status conditions listed in the server status condition table.

High Availability Node State (NodeState)

This attribute reports the HA node (server) status of the configured TrueSight Presentation Server’s primary and secondary nodes.

This attribute uses the following metric values:

Metric valueDescription
0The primary or secondary node is in active state.
1The primary or secondary node is in passive state.
2The primary or secondary node is down.

There could be issues with HA status and a failover cannot occur if:

  • The secondary node value is 0 (primary and secondary nodes are active)
  • The primary node value is 1 (primary node is in passive state)
  • The metric value is 2 (primary or secondary node is down)

Suggested action

Use the relevant CLI commands to restart the primary server and make sure it is the active server.
