Licensing overview

BMC Helix Innovation Suitesupports a common licensing model that enables developers to create applications in BMC Helix Innovation Studio and Developer Studio.

Developers can license the applications that are created by using BMC Helix Innovation Studio and Developer Studio. You can assign licenses to applications that are created by BMC, partners, and customers.

As an administrator, you are responsible for making sure that you are obtaining and setting up licenses, as well as periodically reporting and auditing them.

The BMC Helix Innovation Suite licensing grants the legal use of BMC Helix Innovation Suite and is necessary for performing unlimited operations that change the database; for example, creating or updating requests, and developing applications.

How licensing affects access control

In addition to obtaining a license to run the BMC Helix Innovation Suite and other components, you must specify a license type for each user. BMC Helix Innovation Suite includes a setting that enables you to permit users who are not recognized users to access BMC Helix Innovation Suite applications as a member of the Public Group. For more information, see User-and-group-access-overview.

Although licensing is not a component of access control, licensing can affect a user's ability to perform an operation that you grant the user permission to perform. For example, if a user is a member of a group that has Change permission to a field but you did not give the appropriate write license, the user cannot change the field.
