Modifying consent for data collection


BMC Helix ITSM Insights collects telemetry data such as  automatic events, clicks or page navigation, and custom events such as opening a dropdown menu or using a specific product feature. The data collection provides insights into product usage, users’ activities within the application, product performance, web statistics, and optimizing the product capabilities.

As an ITSM Insightsuser, when you log in to  BMC Helix ITSM Insights  for the first time, the following notification is displayed, and data collection is enabled by default. You can modify your consent for data collection any time.

You can clear the Enable data collection for performance and product improvement check box to opt out of the data collection process. 

Data collected for improving product performance

When you enable data collection, BMC Helix ITSM Insights  collects data about your usage of the product for identifying defects, improving performance, and developing new features. Some examples of data collected are as follows:

  • Time taken to complete tasks
  • Count of clicks or taps on certain elements, like buttons
  • Count of errors experienced while using a BMC product, and their type
  • User inactivity time on the product
  • Response to ratings and surveys provided by BMC products
  • Frequency of logging in and logging out of the BMC products
  • Movement from one BMC product to another
  • Information that allows BMC to identify a product or an instance of a product
  • Diagnostic information needed for technical troubleshooting
  • General information about your computer or web browser that could be used to identify technical problems

To modify your consent for data collection

You can modify your data collection consent at any time. Your change applies only to your individual user account.

Important

Contact BMC Support to modify data collection for all users within the organization. For more information about contacting BMC Support, see  Support-information .

  1. Navigate to your profile.
  2. Click Analytics.

    The Analytics dialog box is displayed.
  3. Perform one of the following steps:
    • To opt in for data collection, select the Enable data collection for performance and product improvement check box.
    • To opt out of data collection, clear the Enable data collection for performance and product improvement check box
  4. Click Save.

When you change your data collection settings, it might take several seconds for the settings to be updated.
