Using Strobe for Java
To measure an active job
You can measure up to four JVMs from the same address space (ASID) simultaneously.
- To measure Java PID data, provide a job name or JVM ID. Alternatively, you can request the measurement of Java PID data from the JVM list that displays all active JVMs running in your IBM z/OS environment.
Make sure that your JVM is configured with JMX properties that are required for measuring a job. For more information, see this knowledge article.
Perform the following steps to measure an active job:
- From the Strobe Options menu, select Option 1. The Strobe - Add Active Request panel is displayed.

- To display a list of JVM jobs, clear the JOBNAME field, enter J, and press Enter:

- Enter Y in Change Display Format, and press Enter.
- To measure a Java application, select MJE JAVA. All jobs that use Java applications are displayed.

- Select the job that you want to measure and press Enter. The MJE JAVA column indicates if a job is using a Java application.

- Configure a measurement session by entering the following details:

Enter the duration of time to measure the process.
TSO User ID To Notify
Enter a TSO user ID to notify when the measurement request is complete.
Sample Dataset Information
Specify the sample data set information.
Data Collectors
Enter Y and press Enter.
- In the Strobe - Data Collectors panel, enter Y in the MJE JAVA field and press Enter.

- Select the desired PID that you want to measure and press Enter to submit the measurement request.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
