Altering the resource expiration date

Important

This action is available only on the new Resources page. To navigate to the new Resources page, click Show me on the blue banner available at the top of the Resources page.

You can alter the expiration date for the following resource types:

  • Archive data sets
  • Backup data sets
  • Import data sets
  • Cloud Data Sets

The Alter action supports all types of expirations (generation based, SMS based, VTOC, CATALOG, and user specified).

If you are using HCP, Pure Storage, or Cohesity, you must enable versioning to use the Alter action.

To alter the resource expiration date

  1. To alter a single resource, click Three-dot options.jpg in the resource row, and select Alter. To alter multiple resources, select one or more resources from the list and click Alter at the top of the resources list.
    The Alter window is displayed listing the name, volume, and expiration date of each selected resource.

    Important

    • You can alter the expiration dates for resources of the same complex IDs only.
    • If the calculation of the current expiration date for the selected data sets is not complete, a dialog box requiring your confirmation is displayed. You can choose to proceed to alter the resources without the expiration date information or cancel the alter process.

  2. In the Alter dialog box, perform the following steps.
    1. Select one of the following retention types from the Retention list:

      Retention type

      Description

      Forever

      The resource never expires.

      Period

      The resource expires after the specified period, starting from when you alter the resource. You can specify the period by days, weeks, months, or years.

      From the list, select the time period (days, weeks, months, or years), and enter the time value in units in the field. 

      Date

      The resource expires on the specified date.

      Use the date picker to select the date.

    2. From the Executing agent list, select the required executing agent.
    3. Click Alter. The username and password fields are displayed. 
    4. Enter your user name and password.
    5. Click Alter.

A corresponding alter activity is displayed in the Activities page.
