Upgrading a synthetic TEA Agent using the wizard

Where you are in the Upgrade process

You can upgrade using an interactive wizard, or run a silent (unattended) upgrade script.

To upgrade the synthetic Synthetic TEA Agent

  1. Log in to the host computer on which you want to install the TEA Agent as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. Extract the downloaded files to a temporary directory.
  3. Run the setup.exe file.
  4. Review the Welcome page, and click Next.
  5. Read the license agreement, agree to the terms, and click Next.If you do not agree to the terms of the license agreement, the upgrade process ends.
  6. Specify the upgrade directory or retain the default, and click Next
The default directory is one of the following, according to your system:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\BMC Software\BMCTEAAgent
    • C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMCTEAAgent

The utility checks the environment for the required software components and available space.

  7. Review the Portal Details on the App Visibility Connection page and modify the details, if required. In a high-availability environment, if a load balancing server manages access to the App Visibility portal, enter the host name and port number of the load balancer. Click Next.
  8. Review the details in the Preview page, confirm that the Installation Type is Upgrade, and click Install.
One of the following responses occurs:

    • Upgrade begins, using the parameters provided from the existing installation.
    • Upgrade cannot begin because the Synthetic TEA Agent is running. Click Previous and wait for the Synthetic TEA Agent to stop (or manually stop the Synthetic TEA Agent) before proceeding.

    Note

You might see the following message:

Test connection could not establish a secure connection with App Visibility.  If you are using a custom certificate, after you install, use the certificate replacement tool to replace the agent certificate.

If you see this message, you need to replace your Synthetic TEA Agent security certificate after the upgrade is finished. See Implementing-private-certificates-for-App-Visibility-components-and-Synthetic-TEA-Agents for more details.

  9. After the upgrade process completes, click View Log to view the installation log files.
  10. Click Done to exit the wizard.
  11. If your host computer has multiple versions of Silk Performer installed, ensure that the Path is pointing to the supported version of the Silk Performer. If the Path is not pointing to the supported version, set the Path as shown in the following example:

(Windows)  set Path=C:\Program Files (x86)\Silk\Silk Performer 18.5;<Silk Agent installation directory>\truesightpserver\bin

  12. If your Synthetic TEA Agent is installed on a Windows Server operating system, you need to restart the computer. See After upgrading Silk Performer and installing or upgrading the TEA Agent, the TEA Agent doesn't runfor more details.
  13. If you enabled HA for the  App Visibility  portal for the first time, upgrade each TEA Agent and update each agent's portal connection details to the portal's load balancing server.
