Applying feature packs or fix packs on TEA Agents

Where you are in the Applying-feature-packs-or-fix-packs process

Backup custom certificate

Before you upgrade the TEA Agent, if you have implemented a custom certificate, backup the entire \TEAAgent\WorkingFolder\Conf\cert folder on the TEA Agent host computer by copying it to a temporary backup location.

To apply a feature pack or fix pack to the synthetic TEA Agent using the wizard

  1. Log on to the host computer as a user with administrator privileges and extract the downloaded files to a temporary directory.
  2. To start the upgrade utility, you need to right-click the setup.exe icon and select Run as administrator.
  3. On the welcome page, click Next.
  4. Review the license agreement, select I agree to the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.
The utility checks the environment for required software components and available space.
  5. On the Directory Selection page, select the installation directory of the current TEA Agent installation.

    Note

Make sure that the installLocation matches the existing value of your TEA Agent installation.

  6. Review the Portal Details on the App Visibility Connection page. Modify the details if necessary, or click Next if no change is necessary.
If a load balancing server manages access to the portal, enter the host name and port number of the load balancer.
  7. Review the details in the Installation Preview page, confirming that the Installation Type is Upgrade, and click Install.
One of the following responses occurs:

    • Upgrade begins, using the parameters provided from the existing installation.
    • Upgrade cannot begin because the TEA Agent is running. Click Previous and wait for the TEA Agent to stop (or manually stop the TEA Agent) before proceeding.

    Note

At this stage in the upgrade you may see the following message:

Test connection could not establish a secure connection with App Visibility. If you are using a custom certificate, after you install, use the certificate replacement tool to replace the agent certificate.

If you see this message, you need to replace your TEA Agent security certificate after the upgrade is finished. See Applying-private-certificates-to-App-Visibility-components for more details.

  8. On the Installation Summary page, click View Log to examine the upgrade log, then click Done to exit the utility.
  9. Restart the Windows host computer. For more information, see After-upgrading-Silk-Performer-and-installing-or-upgrading-the-TEA-Agent-the-TEA-Agent-doesn-t-run.

To apply a feature pack or fix pack to the synthetic TEA Agent silently

You can apply a feature pack or fix pack to more than one TEA Agent on a single computer. For each agent you must supply the specific agent installation directory.

If you want to apply the feature pack or fix pack to more than one TEA Agent on the same computer, you must run the installation more than once. For each run, make sure that the installLocation matches the existing value of your TEA Agent installations.

  1. Log on to the host computer as a user with administrator privileges.
  2. From the Disk1 directory, open the TEAAgent-silent-option-upgrade.txt file, the options file provided with the product installer.
  3. Make sure that installation directory path that you enter in installLocation matches the value for your existing TEA Agent installation.
  4. Save the TEAAgent-silent-option-upgrade.txt file.
  5. From the directory where the installer file is stored, open a command prompt and run the silent upgrade using the following command:

    setup.exe -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE="<filePath>\TEAAgent-silent-option-upgrade.txt"

The <filePath> is the full location of the options file.

    Example

    setup.exe -i silent -DOPTIONS_FILE="C:\temp\TEA-Agent-Windows-10.7.00\Disk1\TEAAgent-silent-option-upgrade.txt"

  6. Restart the Windows host computer. For more information, see After-upgrading-Silk-Performer-and-installing-or-upgrading-the-TEA-Agent-the-TEA-Agent-doesn-t-run.

Note

You may see the following message in the upgrade log file:

Test connection could not establish a secure connection with App Visibility.  If you are using a custom certificate, after you install, use the certificate replacement tool to replace the agent certificate.

If you see this message, you need to replace your TEA Agent security certificate after upgrade is finished. See Applying-private-certificates-to-App-Visibility-components for more details.

To verify the TEA Agent after applying the feature pack or fix pack

  1. Using Windows Administration Tools to view local services, ensure that the service for the BMC TEA Agent is running.
If the service is not running, check in the bmcteaagent_install_log.txt file (located in the %temp% directory) for warnings or errors.
  2. Log on to the Presentation Server with Administrator access.
  3. From the navigation menu, select Administration > App Visibility Agents.
  4. Ensure that your installed Agent is listed in the table and that the Agent status is Online.

Where to go from here

If you are upgrading to a high-availability environment you need to re-register your TEA Agents with the TrueSight Presentation Server. Go to the Administration > App Visibility Agents page in your Presentation Server and delete the TEA Agents. The TEA Agents will automatically re-register with the Presentation Server on the next heartbeat (which occurs every 30 seconds).

Now that you have successfully installed the feature pack or fix pack on App Visibility Manager, install it on the other TrueSight Operations Management components. For instructions, see Applying-feature-packs-or-fix-packs.
