Monitoring and managing events

When TrueSight Infrastructure Management discovers an issue with a device, the monitor that is set up for that device activates an event. All events are displayed on the Events page.

The following illustration provides an overview of the information that you can view and the actions that you can perform through the Events page.

Description and reference

View the source of events

Click the event source icon callout_13.png, which indicates the source of the events that are currently displayed on the Events page. Depending on the source, you see one of the following icons:

  • tsim_eventsource.png - Indicates that the events are received from all TrueSight Infrastructure Management Servers. This setting is the default.
  • cell.png - Indicates that the events are received from a remote cell.

Change the event source

Click the event source icon callout_13.png. In the Select Event Source dialog box, choose a source from the list of registered Infrastructure Management Servers or cells.

If you are viewing events from a remote cell, cell.pngis displayed as the event source icon.

View event groups

Click the View event groups icon callout_14.png. The Event Groups page is displayed. You can create new event groups or work with existing ones. For more information, see Using-event-groups-to-filter-events.

Search for particular events

Click the Search Events iconcallout_4.PNG to quickly find an event. For more information, see Searching for events.

If the event summary area reaches the maximum number of events that it can display, you can refine the filter criteria that you have set or search for specific events.

Note: This feature is not available if you are viewing events from a remote cell, indicated by the cell.pngicon on the Events page.

Filter the list of events

Use the event groups filter callout_14.png to group events based on event types; For more information, see Using-event-groups-to-filter-events.

Use the quick filters for event status callout_8.PNG and event severity callout_9.PNG to filter the list of events. For more information, see Using-quick-filters-to-filter-events.

Use the time filter callout_2.PNG to filter events based on when they occurred. For more information, see Using-time-filters-to-filter-events.

Use the Search Events iconcallout_4.PNG to search for certain events and filter out the remaining events. For more information, see Searching-for-devices-events-groups-or-monitors-in-the-TrueSight-console.

From the action menu callout_1.PNG, select Create Custom Filter for advanced filtering options. For more information, see Using-custom-filters-to-filter-events.

View the events summary

For more information, see Accessing-the-event-table-views-from-the-TrueSight-console.

The event title, event quick and custom filters, event group information, and event toolbar, stays in view while you scroll through the event list.

Notes:

  • When you migrate the App Visibility server from a TrueSight Presentation Server that has TrueSight Infrastructure Management connected to it to another TrueSight Presentation Server, the migrated applications do not appear with the severity colors. However, when new events are open after migration, the applications appear with the severity colors.
  • When you migrate the App Visibility server from one TrueSight Presentation Server to another, the description and importance of App Visibility applications are not migrated to the new TrueSight Presentation Server. As a workaround, do one of the following:
    • (BMC Recommended) Restore the TrueSight Presentation Server back data and configurations from the old to the newly migrated TrueSight Presentation Server.
    • (Alternatively) Use the REST API https://<TSPS FDQN: TSPS port>/tsps/10.0/api/application/list to extract the list of all applications and reuse the data from the API response to get the application descriptions and severities.

Drill down and view event details

For detailed analysis and remediation, drill down into the Event Details page using the event action menu callout_10.PNG or the event date and time link in the Occurred column for detailed information about each event.

Right-clicking on the event in the Occurred column, displays the browser context menu that allows you to open the event details on the new tab or windows of the browser.

View noise reduction metrics

View the amount of noise reduction achieved by the product for events coming from all the Infrastructure Management servers including associated remote cells existing in your environmentcallout_17.png.

Out-of-the-box event admins and super admins can view and click the percentage displayed under Noise Reduction at the top-right of the page to see further details. To enable other users to view noise reduction metrics, administrators can provide the Show Noise Reduction Metrics permission on the Roles tab.

Noise reduction availability

Noise reduction metrics will not be available if all the Infrastructure Management servers are disconnected in your environment. However, if some of the servers are connected, while others are disconnected, then noise reduction metrics is displayed for the connected servers only.

Note that to be able to view noise reduction metrics, you need to ensure that both the Presentation Server and Infrastructure Management servers are upgraded to 11.3.02 or later. If some of the Infrastructure Management servers are upgraded to 11.3.02 or later while others are not, then noise reduction metrics is displayed for only those servers that are upgraded to 11.3.02 or later.
