Managing attribute sets
An attribute set is a list of related performance attributes (metrics) that, taken together, represents a more abstract functional grouping of those individual attributes. You can use attribute sets to create reports on required metrics in TrueSight Smart Reporting.
The following out-of-the-box attribute sets are available:
- Free disk space
- Real memory used
- Total CPU Utilization
You create attribute sets of type External Report that you can use to transfer performance data to the report engine.
You can create your own attribute sets to establish advanced relationships among various performance metrics. After these functional groupings have been established, you can use them to leverage relationships between various elements in the infrastructure.
The attribute set helps you to do away with creating different relationships for each system monitor type. It is conceptually similar to how many monitor instances can be put together in a group and relationships are then defined in terms of the group rather than from the individual monitor instance. You can use the External Reports attribute sets to create reports.
Example
To create a relationship between Web Servers and CPU usage, you can create an attribute set for all CPU usage performance attributes across all platforms. In this case, you can create an attribute set containing Windows System CPU usage, Solaris System CPU usage, AIX System CPU usage, and so on.
Permissions required
To perform any operation (create/edit/delete) on an attribute set, you must have the following permissions:
- Allow Manage Reports
- Allow manage External Reports attribute set used in transferring data to external reporting DB
This feature is recommended only for advanced users who are trained and familiar with the Probable Cause capabilities of Infrastructure Management.
