System requirements

Support for third-party products

To receive full support for a BMC product, you must have that product installed in a supported environment, as specified in the BMC product documentation. If a third-party vendor cancels support for one of its products (such as an operating system or subsystem), and that third-party product integrates or interacts with the BMC product you have licensed, you must upgrade to a supported version of that third-party product before BMC Customer Support can provide you with support for the affected BMC product. For further information, see BMC's product support policy.

Before installing PATROL for VMware vSphere, verify that the target computer meets the installation requirements listed in the following table.

Note

To get complete compatibility information for BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere, use the BMC Solution and Product Availability and Compatibility Utility on the Product Availability and Compatibility page.

Deployment system requirements

The following table lists the system requirements to set up VMware vCenter Server based on the size of the enterprise. To know the number of PATROL Agents required in your environment, see Determining-the-number-of-PATROL-Agents-required-to-monitor-VMware-vCenter-Server.

Note

  • For medium and large production VMware vCenter Server monitoring, all components must be installed on a 64-bit operating system and must run in 64-bit mode.
  • The scalability information is based on the controlled and internal testing of BMC ProactiveNet Server, BMC ProactiveNet Integration Service, BMC PATROL Agent, and BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere. The provided values represent the maximum value recommended for each component. If you have reached the maximum value for any component, the other components might not be scaled beyond the actual value that you have used. For example, with 40,000 PATROL instances, if you are monitoring 175,000 parameters, you cannot scale the PATROL instances beyond 40,000.
  • BMC products are certified for use on supported operating system versions. BMC does not explicitly test for OS patches/updates that are released after a BMC product is released.
  • BMC products should work fine with minor updates to these supported operating systems. For assistance, please contact BMC Customer Support.
  • To monitor the entire VMware vCenter Server, BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere requires a read-only user with access to the highest level of the VMware vCenter Server tree. For more information, see Troubleshooting.
