Features
BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization provides the following features for monitoring your environment.
Discover your virtualization components
After you add Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Managers to your environment, BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization automatically discovers the following virtualization components:
- Data centers
- Clusters
- Storage domains
- Hosts
- Virtual machines (VMs)
View performance reports
In BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, you can access several reports that enable you to assess the performance of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization hosts and VMs contained in your virtual environment. The following reports are available in BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. For information about how to generate these reports, see Generating-host-and-virtual-machine-reports-in-Red-Hat-Enterprise-Virtualization-environment.
Top 10 hosts by CPU report
This report lists the following information:
- Top 10 Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization hosts that are consuming the largest amount of CPU resources
- CPU consumed by those hosts
You can obtain this report at the following levels:
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager
- Data center
- Cluster
Top 10 hosts by memory report
This report lists the following information:
- Top 10 Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization hosts that are consuming the largest amount of memory
- Memory consumed by those hosts
You can obtain this report at the following levels:
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager
- Data center
- Cluster
Top 10 VMs by CPU report
This report lists the following information:
- Top 10 VMs that are consuming the largest amount of CPU
- CPU consumed by those VMs
You can obtain this report at the following levels:
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager
- Data center
- Cluster
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization host
Top 10 VMs by memory report
This report lists the following information:
- Top 10 VMs that are consuming the largest amount of memory
- Memory consumed by those VMs
You can obtain this report at the following levels:
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager
- Data center
- Cluster
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization host
Create filters for monitoring
You can create filters to include or exclude data centers, clusters, hosts, and VMs from monitoring. In addition, you can filter hosts and VMs based on the availability of fully-qualified domain names (FQDNs). For more information, see Configuring-filters-for-data-centers-clusters-hosts-and-virtual-machines.
Monitor performance statistics for hosts and VMs
Using BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, you can access performance data for hosts and VMs, measuring how virtual resources affect your physical resources. The types of performance data that you can measure include the following:
- The allocation of resources - what CPU or memory resources have been assigned to a host or VM
- The amount of resources used - how the assigned resources have been used by the host or VM
- The rate of resource utilization - percentage of resources used versus the amount of resources allotted
Monitor the migration of VMs in a cluster
The Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment supports live migration of a VM from one Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization host to another. BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization enables you to monitor these migrations for analysis by using various parameters that display information about the number of migrations for the past one hour and one day. For more information about these parameters, see Number-of-VM-Migrations-in-last-day-VMMigrationPerDay and Number-of-VM-Migrations-in-last-hour-VMMigrationPerHour.
Support for BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration
BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization version 1.0.00 is enabled for BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration (CMA). You can configure the REV Manager Container monitor type through CMA.
For more information, see Configuring-in-a-BMC-ProactiveNet-Performance-Management-environment.
Configure Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment using BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration console
Version 1.0.00 of BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and version 9.0.00 of BMC PATROL Agent allow you to configure your Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment by using the BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration console. This configuration controls the transfer of monitoring data from BMC PATROL for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization to BMC ProactiveNet. For more information, see Configuring-in-a-BMC-ProactiveNet-Performance-Management-environment.
