Configure using PATROL Configuration Manager

BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols supports creation and configuration of custom monitor, and configuration of the network devices without the usage of PATROL Console or CMA. This can be performed using PCM. This section describes how to create and configure a custom monitor, and configure network devices to be monitored using PATROL Configuration Manager.

You can use BMC PATROL Configuration Manager to configure BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols by using the following methods:

  • PATROL Configuration Manager menu commands
  • RuleSets through the CLI
The KM installation contains rule set files (.cfg) for PCM. This rule set file path file is located at $PATROL_HOME\..\pconfmgr\rulesets\Shipped. The rule set files contain configuration rules required to configure custom monitor and network devices.

Before you begin

Before using PATROL Configuration Manager to change the configuration of a Knowledge Module (KM), BMC recommends that you ensure that PATROL Configuration Manager is set up to save or backup the configuration.

To enable backups in PATROL Configuration Manager, perform the following steps:

  1. From the main menu, select File > Configure > Application.
  2. In the Configure: Application dialog box, select the Archives tab to open the Backup Settings.
  3. Ensure that the Save Backup Before Apply option is selected.
  4. Click OK to save the settings.
