INET_Protocol_Tcp Application Class
The INET_Protocol_Tcp application class reports on the amount of connections in the eleven different TCP connection states. These parameters will be used to alert of pending network service problems. For example, as the number of connections in FIN_WAIT_2 state increases, the likelihood of dropped connection increases.
The overall transmission rate for all TCP traffic, in and out, is reported. As these rates exceed known threshold levels for the server, the parameter will go into alarm and take recovery actions as necessary.
Prediscovery
Prediscovery quickly determines whether Internet servers can be monitored on a machine by checking the platform type. If the platform is UNIX or Windows, the application is activated.
Discovery
Discover whether TCP protocol monitor should be active based on the existence of one or more monitored Internet server (Web, FTP, Mail, DNS, etc.).
