View lagging partitions in consumer lag metric

PATROL for Apache Kafka includes annotation support for the Consumer Lag metric. This feature lets you identify which partitions are experiencing delays in processing messages because of lag. With this enhancement, you can reduce processing delays and maintain service continuity by focusing on the most impacted partitions. As a result, troubleshooting becomes more efficient, issues are resolved faster, and the overall reliability of Kafka systems is improved. For more information, see Configuring monitoring of Apache Kafka environment.

Track Kafka broker rebalance activity and partition load performance

PATROL for Apache Kafka 26.2 introduces the following broker-level metrics to track the consumer group rebalance activity and partition load performance:

  • Total number of completed rebalance
  • Rate of completed rebalance
  • Avg time to load the partitions

These metrics are added in the Kafka Broker application class.  These metrics track how often Kafka redistributes data load among consumers and the time brokers take to reload data. This capability detects instability and performance impact caused by frequent redistributions. For more information, see Kafka Broker (KFK_BROKER).

Monitor rebalance count in consumer groups

PATROL for Apache Kafka 26.2 introduces the Rebalance Count metric in the KFK_CONSUMER_GROUP application class to record how many rebalance events occur within a consumer group. This metric shows how often a consumer group pauses to redistribute its message processing load. A higher count indicates more interruptions, which can slow down processing and signal potential instability, helping you quickly identify and address issues. For more information, see Kafka Consumer Group (KFK_CONSUMER_GROUP).
