Installing in a TrueSight Operations environment


Starting from the TrueSight console version 10.5, you can select monitor installation components, such as the PATROL Agent and monitoring solutions to create a deployable package. The components can then be installed together using the deployable package. You can reuse the deployable packages, or deploy the packages to multiple computers.

Note

The installation instructions provided in this topic are applicable only to the following product versions:

  • PATROL Agent version 10.0 and later.
  • TrueSight Infrastructure Management version 10.5 and later.
  • TrueSight Presentation Server version 10.5 and later.

Before you begin

 

To create a deployable package using the TrueSight console

  1. Log on to the TrueSight console. In the navigation pane, expand Administration, select Repository, and select the Deployable Packages tab.
  2. ClickCreatePackage.PNGCreate Deployable Package.
    The Create Deployable Package wizard starts.
  3. On the Installation Package Solution Selection page, select the operating system for which you want to create a package, and then select a platform on which you want to install the package.
    The list of components in the repository that are supported on the specified operating system and platform is displayed.
  4. Select the components that you want to include in the package.
  5. From the Version list, select the version of the component that you want to include in the package.
    You can select a specific version or you can select latest, which automatically updates the package with the latest versions of the components when new versions of those components are added to the Infrastructure Management repository.

  8. In the Installation Package Details window, enter the following information:
    • Name: The name of the deployable package. Can contain only A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and underscore (_).
    • (Optional)Description: Enter a description of the package.
      The description is displayed in the list of deployable packages.
    • Format: Select a file compression format for the installation package.
  9. Failed to execute the [excerpt-include] macro. Cause: [Error number 2 in 0: No wiki with id [confluencePage:page] could be found]. Click on this message for details.
  10. While creating the package, if you select Save and Download, the package is created and downloaded to your computer. Copy the downloaded package to a host computer where you intend to install the PATROL Agent. Extract the package, and run the RunSilentInstall file to install the PATROL Agent.
  11. While creating the package, if you select Save option, the package is created and listed under Deployable Packages tab. In the navigation pane, expand Administration, select Repository, and select the Deployable Packages tab. The saved packages are listed under the Deployable Packages tab as shown in the following figure. Click the action menu of a selected package, and select Download to download and save the package to your computer. Copy the downloaded package to a host computer where you intend to install the PATROL Agent. Extract the package, and run the RunSilentInstall to install the PATROL Agent.

    Note

    • You must run the silent installer file RunSilentInstall from the host computer on which you plan to install the PATROL Agent .
    • You must have created and logged in with the PATROL default account before you run RunSilentInstall.

To edit a component installation package

You can edit any part of an existing deployable package except the operating system and platform.

Notes

  • You can delete predefined packages but cannot edit them. To save a predefined package with a different name, edit the predefined package, provide a different package name, and select Save As.
  • Editing a component installation package option is useful, when multiple versions of the PATROL Agent are available in the repository.
  1. Log on to the TrueSight console. In the navigation pane, expand Administration, select Repository, and select the Deployable Packages tab.
  2. In the list of deployable packages, select the action menu for the deployable package to edit, and select Edit.
    The Edit Deployable Package wizard starts.
  3. From the Solutions list, select the components that you want to include in the package.
  4. From the Version list, select the version of each component that you include in the package.
    You can select a specific version or you can select latest, which automatically updates the package with the latest versions of the components when new versions of those components are added to the Infrastructure Management repository.
  5. Perform one of the following actions, depending on your requirements:
    • Add or edit the installation details of existing or new components.

    • Click Finish to skip to the Installation Package Details window.

      Note

      If you add or remove a component from the deployable package, the Finish button does not appear and you must complete the configuration process.

  6. Failed to execute the [excerpt-include] macro. Cause: [Error number 2 in 0: No wiki with id [confluencePage:page] could be found]. Click on this message for details.
  7. In the Installation Package Details window, modify the following information as needed:
    • To save the same package: Do not change the package name. Select Save to overwrite the package with the modified information. 
      To create a new package: Provide a different package name. Select Save As to create a new package. No changes are made to the original package.
      Package name can contain only A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and underscore (_).
    • (Optional) Description: Enter a description of the package.
      The description is displayed in the list of deployable packages.
    • Format: Select a file compression format for the installation package.
  8. A template of the package is saved to the <Presentation Server installation directory>\truesightpserver\data\pproxy\installer_templates folder and is listed in the Deployable Packages tab.
