23.3 enhancements and patches
For a list of recent updates and enhancements across multiple versions, see Release-notes-and-notices.
BMC applies upgrades as described in BMC Helix Upgrade policy. BMC applies upgrades and patches during Maintenance windows.
23.3.02
Preview the event policy execution order
Preview the execution order for event policies and policy configurations in an event policy. Use the preview to understand when each policy phase is executed and the order in which event policies process events.
For more information, see Creating-and-enabling-event-policies.
Preview the event selection criteria
Preview events in the event selection criteria to foresee events that are processed by an event policy before the policy is applied to events. With event previewing, you can fine-tune the event selection criteria to process specific events.
For more information, see Event selection criteria.
Audit deleted events
Audit deleted events by using the BMC Helix Audit Dashboard in BMC Helix Dashboards. View the audit trail to track the event deletion history and achieve improved user accountability, compliance with organization policies, and system security.
For more information, see the following topics:
View logs for out-of-the-box policies
In the Logs & Notes tab of an event, view logs to track changes made to events by the following out-of-the-box policies:
- AlarmEventCloseProcessing
- AnomalyEventCloseProcessing
- SelfMonitoringEventCloseProcessing
- PatrolEventsCloseProcessing
- PredictionEventClose
For more information, see Out-of-the-box-event-policies-and-templates.
Use metric operation management APIs to send Prometheus metrics
Use the metric operation management endpoints to send Prometheus metrics to BMC Helix Operations Management by using the JMX exporter or any of the other existing metric exporters.
For more information, see Metric-operation-management-endpoints-in-the-REST-API.
Use the NOT operator while creating event policies
While creating an event policy, you can select the NOT operator in the event selection criteria. With the NOT operator, you can create event policies with more precision and clarity.
For more information, see Slot-data-types.
Use PATROL Agent credentials for the Agent Query Tool
For enhanced security, all users including administrators can use the Agent Query Tool after logging in to it with the PATROL Agent user name and password.
For more information, see Configuring-and-maintaining-monitor-policy-configurations and Viewing-and-filtering-agents.
Filters to view services based on the service kind
On the Services page, use the following Service Kind filter options to view services based on the type of the service:
- Business Service
- Technical Service
- Business Application
Filters are retained even if you switch between the tile view and the heatmap view.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.
Search for a configuration item quickly in topology view
By default, the CI topology tab shows the health of only the impacted configuration items (CI). In a large service model, it is difficult to locate other CIs. Use the search topology box on the CI topology tab to locate the required CI.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.
Save page preferences on the Services and Situations pages
When viewing the Services page, you can save the preferences for the selected severity filters, advanced filters, and the page view by using the Save Preferences option. On the Situations page, you can save the preferences for the selected advanced filters.
After you select any filters or change the views, the Save Preferences option is enabled. Page preferences are saved for the logged-in user until a new preference is saved.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health and Monitoring-policy-based-situations.
23.3.01
Get notified with event alerts on baseline violation
Detect anomalies in your system through notifications of event alerts when a metric violates the baseline-only value. You can receive notifications for the following severity levels:
- Information
- Critical
- Major
- Minor
- Warning
Configure the baseline-only metric condition by using the alarm policy.
For more information, see the following topics:
View the incident count on the service details page
For any service, the total number of incidents is displayed on the service details page. When you click on the count, the incident information is displayed. You can click the incident message to view its details in the incident management system.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.
23.3.00
The following video (3:25) provides a high-level summary of the new features and enhancements in version 23.2 of BMC Helix Operations Management.
Correlate more events in an increased duration
Use the correlation policy to correlate up to 100 events for durations ranging from 2 to 720 minutes compared to the previous limit of 10000 events for durations ranging from 5 to 120 minutes. The increase in the correlation time allows you to correlate more events in a specified duration. The decrease in the minimum event count improves system performance.
For more information, see the following topics:
Store data table values in variables
In advanced enrichment policies, use the Data Table Lookup action to store data table values that match an incoming event in variables. This feature offers you improved flexibility to use the data table values in the policy workflow. Perform advanced event enrichment on the data table values by using functions to add additional context to events.
For more information, see Actions-for-advanced-and-time-based-enrichment.
Use event slots and reference variables in enrichment policies
In an advanced enrichment policy, use reference variables and event slots as values for the Enrich and Variable values. This feature offers you improved flexibility to use variables for advanced event enrichment.
For more information, see Actions-for-advanced-and-time-based-enrichment.
Upload configuration files while creating monitor policies
If a PATROL Agent supports file-based monitoring, you can upload the configuration files for the PATROL Agent while creating a monitor policy. You do not have to access each PATROL Agent separately to upload the configuration files.
For more information, see Defining-monitor-policies and Configuring-and-maintaining-monitor-policy-configurations.
Indication of propagation of the impact to a parent service
The relationship between a parent and child service is indicated by a solid line in the Service Hierarchy view when the impact is being propagated from a child service to its parent service. If the impact is not being propagated, it is indicated by a dotted line.
For more information, see Investigating-the-service-nodes-from-service-hierarchy-view.
Severity filter selections retained on the Services page
Severity filters that you select on the Services page are retained until the page is refreshed or the session expires. Even if you navigate to a different page or switch to the Tile View and return to the Services page, you will see the same data.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.
Total Events, Impacting Events, and Impacting Child Services
The Impacting Sub-Services label is renamed to Impacting Child Services.
The service details page always displays the Total Events count for a service. If the service is impacted, it also displays the Impacting Events count and Impacting Child Services count.
For more information, see Monitoring-service-health.
PATROL repository update
The 23.3 release of the repository contains updates to the following monitoring solutions:
