Performing event operations

Event operations change the status, priority, or ownership of an event. Your user role determines the event operations that you can perform. You can also click on the respective icon on the toolbar to perform the same operation.

Basic event operations and results

The following table describes the basic event operations and results:

To perform event operations on multiple events

Use the check box, Ctrl-click (multiple, non-continuous events), or Shift-click (multiple, continuous events) to select events. Use the event action menu to perform an event operation. To customize the number of multiple events to perform event operations on, see Customizing-the-display-of-the-event-list.

When you select two or more events in the event list, you can view all event operations that are available to your user role. However, an operation is performed only on the selected events whose status makes the operation valid. If the operation is invalid for some selected events, a warning box reports the internal IDs of those events and the reason the operation is invalid. Click OK to execute the event operation on the applicable events, if any.

Scenario

Jane is an operator at Apex Global. She uses REST APIs to close multiple events. However, when the event count increases to a very high number, for example 500, it becomes very difficult for Jane to specify all event IDs in the API request. Can Jane use the BMC Helix Operations Management console to close 500 events rather than use the REST API?

Yes. Jane can now use the Events page and select 500 events at once and close them. This feature has made her job easy and saved her time too.

You can select up to a maximum of 500 events simultaneously to perform all event operations.

If you select more than 100 events, the following points hold true:

  • The event operations are executed with some delay.
  • Only visible slots are exported.
  • The next auto-refresh cycle of the events page is skipped so that the bulk event operations are executed seamlessly.

Tip

  • Enable the check box for events when you are using a mobile device to access the BMC Helix Operations Management console. To do this, in the event preferences, select Show check box for event selection. For more information, see Customizing-the-display-of-the-event-list.
  • When you perform bulk event operations, we recommend that you set the event display count to include only the specific number of events on which you intend to perform bulk operations. This setting helps avoid repetitive event selection and deselection.
For example, if you set Maximum multi-events to perform action on to 500, we recommend that you set Maximum number of events to display to 500.
  • To close or delete existing events in bulk, we recommend that you use REST APIs instead of the lookup action in event policies.
