Setting event policy schedules by using time frames

As an administrator, schedule event policies to run during specific time durations to process events. Time frames allow you to specify when an event policy is active. It also gives you the flexibility to control the execution of event policies. Event policies that are associated with a time frame process incoming events that arrive during the time duration specified in the policy. You can schedule different event policies to run once or multiple times for a specific time window based on your requirement.

Scenario

Sarah is an administrator at Apex Global. She wants to help operators in her company quickly identify actionable events from an event storm by activating an event suppression policy to reduce unnecessary event accumulation for a specific time duration. To achieve this goal, she can schedule event policies by using time frames.

Important

  • You can associate a time frame with multiple event policies.
  • Associating multiple time frames to a single event policy is not supported.
  • You can manage time frames by using REST APIs. Make sure to use only REST APIs to delete time frames.
    For more information, see Managing-time-frames-for-event-policies-with-REST-APIs.

Policy status

Time frame status

Does policy execute?

Enabled

Active

Yes

Enabled

Inactive

No

Disabled

Active

No

Disabled

Inactive

For events to be impacted by a time frame setting, the time frame must be active for the entire time that is specified in the policy.

Scenario

An escalation policy is defined to escalate the event severity after 30 minutes with an active time frame from 5.00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. At 6:45 P.M., events are generated. The active time frame expires at 7:00 P.M. Events generated at 6:45 P.M. are not impacted by the policy because the time frame is not active at 7:15 P.M.
