Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about BMC Helix Operations Management.

How can I manage event flood during maintenance windows?

You can use blackout policies to black out the events during maintenance windows. For more information, see Managing-maintenance-windows.

What happens to an open alarm?

In the alarm policy post-trigger actions, if you have specified that the alarm must not be closed, such alarm events are automatically closed if they are not updated for more than 30 days. All the closed events older than 4 days are automatically deleted from the system. For more information, see Understanding event states. However, if you delete such a policy or the PATROL Agent associated with such an alarm is deleted, the alarm is automatically closed.

How do I detect anomalies for monitoring data?

You can detect anomalies in the monitored data by using any of the following methods:

Use predefined or static thresholds. For more information, see Alarm-policies.

Use dynamic thresholds. For more information, see Variate-Policies.

Are there any out-of-the-box policies available in BMC Helix Operations Management?

Can I perform probable cause analysis on impacted services?

Yes, monitor all the services on the Entities page, click an impacted service and perform probable cause analysis. For more information, see Performing probable cause analysis.

What should I do if I see a blank UI page on the BMC Helix AIOps console?
  1. Confirm that you have the required permissions to view data in the BMC Helix AIOps console. For more information, see Roles-and-permissions.
  2. Confirm that you have subscribed to at least one of the data providers that work with BMC Helix AIOps console. You will see data only if you have subscribed to one or more data providers.
  3. If you are a new customer, contact the BMC Sales Team for assistance.

What is the minimum number of events required to create a situation?

At least two events are required to create a situation.
