Total event count and anomaly event count for health insight

An event is a notification that indicates a change in the state of an application or device that you are monitoring. Thus, an event can represent an error or warning, it can mean the crossing of a set threshold, or it can mean everything is working as expected, and so on. Based on the severity, events can help you discover health issues across your environment from a single console. When the product discovers an issue with a device, the monitor that is set up for that device activates an event with a severity. Informational events do not require an action. They can help you perform root cause analysis by understanding the time until which the application or device was working as expected.

What are the event sources?

The Total Events widget displays events from BMC Helix Operations Management and any other product that is integrated by using BMC Helix Intelligent Integrations or BMC Helix Developer Tools. For more information, see Data-sources-for-BMC-Helix-AIOps.

The Overview page displays the total event count for a selected time range as shown in the following example image:

In the example, there are 532 events in the last 24 hours.

How to derive insight from the event count indicator?

On the Overview page, you can view the total event count for the selected time range. Consider the following scenario to understand how to derive insight by using this indicator:

  • Event count for the last 60 minutes is 275
  • Event count for the last 15 minutes is 200

This indicates the presence of problems in your monitored environment and enables you to take appropriate actions quickly to resolve the issues.

Anomaly events

In a streaming and interconnected world of data analysis, an anomaly is an unexpected spike in the time-series data, a break in the periodicity, or an unclassifiable data point within a specific data set. An anomaly condition can occur independently or be due to a combination of factors. For example, a combination of slow response time and high memory utilization can cause a breach in the expected system behavior. An anomaly event depicts an anomaly condition.

What are the anomaly event sources?

The Total Anomalies widget displays anomaly events from BMC Helix Operations Management and any other product that is integrated by using BMC Helix Intelligent Integrations or BMC Helix Developer Tools. For more information, see Data-sources-for-BMC-Helix-AIOps.

The Overview page displays the total anomaly events for the selected time range as shown in the following image:
