Installation process overview

BMC Application Diagnostics monitors and identifies performance issues in Java and Microsoft .NET enterprise web application. When integrated with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring, BMC Application Diagnostics provides visibility of performance issues from an end user perspective.

For a standalone product, you install the BMC Application Performance Management Console and access the product from the Diagnostics tab. As part of BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring environment, you access diagnostics data directly from a link in the Real User Analyzer.

Installing the standalone product includes installation of the console, BMC Application Diagnostics Server components, and agents. Integration with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring requires some additional tasks.

This topic provides the sequence of the installation process and links to each of the installations steps.

To deploy BMC Application Diagnostics

1. Install the BMC Application Performance Management Console.
2. Download the installation files.
3. Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Server:
   1. Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Server with the installation wizard or
      Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Server in silent mode.
   2. Verify the BMC Application Diagnostics Server installation.
   3. Change the MySQL root password.
4. Modify an Agent policy, including setting the Agent mode, and set a default policy.

5. Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent:

   BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for Java

   1. Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for Java in interactive mode or
      Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for Java in silent mode.
   2. Verify the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for Java installation.
   3. Configure the Portal on the BMC Application Performance Management Console.
   4. Post installation configuration:
      1. Update the Java options according the application server type.
      2. Grant Java 2 permissions.
      3. Change security settings, if required.

   BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for Windows .NET

   1. Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET with the installation wizard or
      Install the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET in silent mode.
   2. Verify the BMC Application Diagnostics Agent for .NET installation.
   3. Configure the Portal on the BMC Application Performance Management Console.
   4. After installation, change security settings, if required.
6. (Optional) To deploy BMC Application Diagnostics integrated with BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring, continue with the integration steps.
7. (Optional) Configure and activate other integrated technologies.
