Viewing a virtual machine


A virtual machine object in BMC Discovery represents a discovered virtual machine, running either locally, or in a cloud. Virtual machines are set up automatically by the BMC Discovery process.

To view a virtual machine

  1. From the main menu, select Explore > Data.
  1.  In the Hosts & Containers section, click Virtual Machines.
  2. Select a virtual machine from the list.
    The details of the virtual machine that you selected are displayed in a new page, as displayed in the following screenshot.

The information fields for a typical virtual machine are described in the following table:

Field name

Details

Name

Name of this virtual machine.

Type

Type of virtual machine, for example, Microsoft Azure VM.

Cloud Hosted

Shows whether or not the VM is cloud hosted.

Cloud Class

Vendor classification of cloud VM.

Configipedia Page

Link to the Configipedia page.

Instance Count

Number of VM instances.

Cloud Service 

Cloud service on which this VM is running.

Public IP Address 

Public IP address of this cloud VM.

Private IP Address 

Private IP address of this cloud VM.

Tags

Tag or tags applied to the virtual machine, as returned from the vCenter server.
Discovery of tags from vCenter was introduced in the November 2019 TKU.

Contained Virtual Host

Virtual host provided by this VM.

VM Type

The VM technology on which this VM instance is based on. 

VM Name 

The name of this VM. 

VM UUID

The UUID of this VM.

Load Balancer

Load balancing member for which this VM is implementing a service. 

Administrative Collections 

A collection which this VM is a part of.

Maintaining Pattern

The pattern that maintains this VM.

Instance Id

Instance Id of this VM.
