Technology Knowledge Update TKU 2024-Mar-1

BMC Discovery Technology Knowledge Update 2024-Mar-1 provides information about new scanning capabilities in the 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1 versions of BMC Discovery.

Release highlights

In this release, we are delivering:

Cloud

AWS: Updated the pattern to discover Virtual and Cloud Hosts when scanning through Kubernetes API. For more details, see (DRDC1-21924) and the documentation here.
AZURE: Updated the Microsoft Azure CosmosDB pattern to support Tags. For more details, see (DRDC1-22799) and the documentation here.
OCI: Added support for OCI Container Instances. For more details, see (DRDC1-22097) and the documentation here.
OCI: Added support for OCI Applications (Functions). For more details, see (DRDC1-22098) and the documentation here.
OCI: Added support for OCI Oracle Exadata Database Service deep discovery. For more details, see (DRDC1-21668) and the documentation here.

CMDB sync

EOL: Added a pattern for the synchronization of EOL dates to the BMC CMDB. Note that this requires the BMC CMDB to be extended to support the following new attributes: EndOfExtendedSupport, EndOfLife, EndOfSecuritySupport, and EndOfSupport. Network devices

Added a new network device credential type — ArubaOS REST API with token based authentication. For more details, see (DRDC1-22072) and the documentation here.
Added a relationship between the Management Controller and the Storage Device. For more details, see (DRDC1-22329) and the documentation here.
Added support for discovering IBM TS4300 Tape Library with REST API. For more details, see (DRDC1-21694) and the documentation here.

Patterns

IMPORTANT: Introduced the following updates to the Kubernetes and Openshift patterns:
- Added a cloud attribute to the Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift API hosts (DRDC1-22340).
- Optimized and refactored the Kubernetes node creation code (DRDC1-20920).
- Reduced ConfigMap API query results for the Kubernetes discovery (DRDC1-20527).
- Updated the convertCPU function and added code stability improvements (DRDC1-22507).

HEADS-UP: PostgreSQL RDBMS: Starting from December TKU 2023, the PostgreSQL pattern no longer creates SoftwareCluster nodes. What PostgreSQL considers to be a cluster is different to what BMC Discovery considers to be a cluster. You can still find instance information on the SoftwareInstance. Storage

HEADS-UP: The "Allocated Capacity" attribute of Storage System nodes will be deprecated in TKU March 2025. It is identical to the "Total Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC ECS Storage, HP 3PAR Storage, IBM SVC/Storwize Storage, and NexentaStor Storage Systems patterns. It is identical to the "Total Logical Consumed Capacity" attribute in the Dell EMC PowerMax, Dell EMC SCSeries, and IBM FlashSystem patterns. For more details, see (DRDC1-22814).
NetApp SolidFire: Added support for version 12.3. For more details, see (DRDC1-18497) and the documentation here.

TKU 2024-Mar-1 is compatible with the following versions of BMC Discovery: 21.05, 21.3, 22.1, 22.2, 23.1, 23.3, and 24.1.

- Network Device Integration Module with associated Network Device definition files, Printer definition files, and SNMP managed devices definition files.
- System - Patterns that detect configuration issues and populate Discovery Conditions BMC Discovery 21.05, BMC Discovery 21.3, BMC Discovery 22.1, BMC Discovery 22.2, BMC Discovery 23.1, BMC Discovery 23.3, BMC Discovery 24.1 and patterns used by the BMC CMDB sync system.

BMC-Discovery-Extended-Data-Pack-2024-Mar-1
- Hardware Reference Data - Patterns and data import CSV file that populates BMC Discovery with power and heat consumption figures for various hosts.
- National Vulnerability Database - A pattern that populates BMC Discovery with information about the CPE ID of each product.
- Product Lifecycle - Patterns that populate BMC Discovery with information about End-of-Life, End-of-Support, and End-of-Extended-Support for versions of specific host Operating Systems and interpretations of certain software products.

BMC Discovery for Storage is a separately licensable product.
- Storage Systems - Patterns that model many Storage Systems.
- Storage System Release Notes provides the latest Storage updates and improvements to existing Storage patterns.

BMC Discovery for ServiceNow is a separately licensable product.
