Building service blueprints for IBM SoftLayer

This topic provides the caveats and considerations you need to review when creating a service blueprint for IBM SoftLayer services. It also provides links to the applicable service blueprint documentation. This topic contains the following sections:

Roadmap for service blueprint documentation

The following table provides links to the applicable service blueprint documentation.

Topic

Description

Provides an overview of the service blueprint blueprint workspace.

Describes how to add several of the various types of service blueprint objects, and how to define network connections between those objects.

Considerations for creating a service blueprint for IBM SoftLayer Provider

Create service blueprints as described in Building-service-blueprints. The following table identifies the items to consider when creating a service blueprint for the IBM SoftLayer Provider.

Note

With the IBM SoftLayer Provider, you cannot use enable network address translation (NAT) for NICs in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.

Service blueprint construct

Notes specific to IBM SoftLayer

Service blueprint parameters

You should define definition-level parameters.

  • Add the isHourly or isMonthly parameter for hourly or monthly charges. The data type should be Boolean. If you do not add a parameter, the hourly charge parameter is automatically created.
  • Add the isPublicVM or isPrivateVM parameter to define the CPU type. The data type should be Boolean. If you do not define a parameter, a public node parameter is automatically created.

Server

  • In IBM SoftLayer, for your Computing Instance, you can choose a Public node with 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, or 16 CPU times a 2.0 GHz Core. You can choose a Private node with 1, 2, 4, or 8 CPU times a 2.0 GHz Core. In your blueprint, enter the same count in the CPU Count field for the compute resources.
  • For the Memory Size (MB) field on your blueprint, enter the RAM that is configured in IBM SoftLayer. For example, if you select 2 GB RAM in IBM SoftLayer, enter 2048 in the blueprint.
  • For the Cloud Platform field of your blueprint, click the Add button, and enter IBMSOFTLAYER in the Cloud Platform field. Then, from the Machine Image list, select the corresponding operating system in IBM SoftLayer.
  • If you do not include additional system disks, IBM SoftLayer selects a 25 GB SAN disk by default. You can change this to 100 GB SAN disk, or you can change it to a 25 GB or 100 GB Local disk. When adding another disk, you must select the same type of disk as the first disk (SAN or Local). For the second and subsequent disks, you can select any GB size.

Networks

You cannot provision a blueprint with only a public IP. You must have public and private IP or only a private IP.

Tags

  • If you add a Local disk, create a diskType tag group, and a Local tag for the disk.
  • Under the NetworkContainerType group, and add a tag for the network container (for example, NC3).

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
