Installing the IBM SoftLayer Provider using the IBM SoftLayer Provider installer


This topic describes how to install the IBM SoftLayer Provider through the IBM SoftLayer installer and verify the installation. The topic includes: 

 

Prerequisites for installing the IBM SoftLayer Provider

Before installing IBM SoftLayer Provider, ensure that:

  • You have downloaded the IBM SoftLayer Provider installer zip file (IBM SoftLayer Windows Installer 1.0.00.zip or IBM SoftLayer Linux Installer 1.0.00.tar), extracted the file contents, and stored the files on your local computer. Make sure that the IBM SoftLayer Provider installer files (setup.cmd or setup.sh) are on your local computer.
  • The following BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management stack components are running when you install the IBM SoftLayer Provider:
    • Cloud Platform Manager
    • BMC Remedy Action Request System Server (BMC AR System Server)
  • You have the same operating system (Windows or Linux) on the computer from where you will run the installer and the computer where BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management stack components are installed.
  • You have the following privileges on the computer on which you want to run the installer and on which the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management stack components are installed:
    • Administrator (for Windows)
    • root (for Linux)
  • BMC Server Automation Network Shell (NSH) is installed, and the RSCD agent is running on the computer on which you want to run the installer and on which the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management stack components are installed.
  • You have Java 1.7.x 64-bit installed and have set the environment variables (JAVA_HOME and jre PATH).

To install the IBM SoftLayer Provider

  1. At the command prompt, run the following command to start the installation:
    • setup.cmd (Microsoft Windows, logged on as an Administrator
    • setup.sh (Linux, logged on as root)
  2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  3. Review the license agreement, and select I agree to the terms of license agreement and click Next.
  4. Review the IBM SoftLayer Provider Installation Prerequisites window, and ensure that the installation requirements are met.

  5. Select I have read the prerequisites, and click Next.
  6. Select the Install option, and then select the option of a single AR System Server or two AR System Servers.

  7. In the BMC AR System Server connection inputs window, enter the server name, and click Next.
  8. In the next BMC AR System Server connection inputs window, enter the user name, password, and port number for the BMC AR System server or enterprise AR System server, and click Next.

  9. In the Cloud Platform Manager connection inputs window, specify the required details, and click Next:
    • Hostname – Name of the server on which the Cloud Platform Manager is installed
    • User Name – User name for the Cloud Platform Manager
    • Password – Password for the Cloud Platform Manager
    • Platform Manager Directory Path – Complete path name to the Cloud Platform Manager

  10. On the Installation Preview page, click Next
  11. Read the warning related to stopping the BMC_CSM service of the Cloud Platform Manager, and click Next.
  12. On the Installation Summary page, click View Log to review any messages.
  13. To exit the installer, click Done.

Note

After you restart the Platform Manager or BMC_CSM services, clear the BMC Remedy mid tier cache. If you do not clear the cache, you will not see the Manage Multiple Accounts option for IBM SoftLayer in the Providers workspace.

To verify the installation

  1. In the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management – Administration Console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window, and select Providers.
  2. Click Register RegisterButton.png.
  3. In the Register Provider window, verify that the IBM SOFTLAYER provider type appears in the Provider Type list.
