BMC Compact RDS - Single VM overview

BMC Compact RDS provides a complete solution for establishing a cloud environment, including a Service Catalog that defines service offerings, a self-service console for procuring resources, and cloud management capabilities. By combining the best practices of Business Service Management with the flexibility and efficiency of cloud computing, you can achieve your service quality goals. BMC Compact RDS is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3. Unlike the full version of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, which can be deployed across numerous hosts in a high-availability (HA) environment, BMC Compact RDS consists of only one preconfigured VM. The production image is an OVF template on a shared location that contains the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management stand-alone host.

This image does not include any form of router, VMware Virtual Center, or ESX hosts.

Products included in BMC Compact RDS

BMC Compact RDS is a subset of the complete BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution and consists of the following products:

  • BMC Remedy AR System server (enterprise AR System server and cloud AR System server are combined)
  • Enterprise BMC Remedy Mid Tier
  • BMC Atrium Web Services
  • BMC Network Automation
  • BMC Server Automation
  • BMC Atrium Orchestrator
  • BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Core 

BMC Compact RDS does not contain the following products:

  • BMC IT Service Management applications (for example, BMC Change Management)
  • BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Central Server
  • BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Server
  • BMC ProactiveNet Data Collection Host
  • BMC Capacity Optimization

In addition, BMC Compact RDS does not contain the following integrations:

  • Windows and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Bare-metal provisioning from a PXE server
  • Brownfield integration with existing environments

You can upgrade the previous 3.1 Single VM RDS release to BMC Compact RDS 4.0, but you cannot upgrade BMC Compact RDS from a previous BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management release. Also, BMC Compact RDS is English-only. It contains no additional language packs.
